NEW aFe N55 Stage 2 Intake Installed>>> HP Autowerks <<<
Now introducing the next upgrade to your N55 based BMW, the aFe Stage 2 Cold Air Intake. This new unit produces a maximum of 17 horsepower and 23 lb-ft. of torque(This is AFE's claim). It out-flowed the factory intake system by an impressive 44% on the N55 E8x and E9X it was tested on. We all know how important it is on turbo cars for them to breathe well on both the intake and exhaust side.
This is a quality product that includes a heat shield to help keep under hood temps out of the intake as well as a heat-insulating molded plastic tube that not only replaces the stock intake but directs increased air flow with improved volumetric efficiency for optimum performance. The one-piece heat shield requires little or no assembly and the filter is constructed with 100% polyurethane for long life and multiple cleaning cycles. Installation takes about a hour following instructions and everything fit well. After the install the improved throttle response immediately noticed. As for power, I am not going to rely on my butt dyno even though I can feel the additional horse power. Dyno Charts: Power mods for the purple line are: Berk DP and full exhaust, ETS FMIC, HPA Drop-in and ER N55 charge pipe with JB3 at 4 lbs boost over stock Power mods for the green line are: Berk DP and full exhaust, ETS FMIC, HPA Drop-in, ER N55 charge pipe and ETS FMIC with JB3 at 4 lbs boost over stock as a warm up run. ***ETS FMIC alone made 15hp and 9tq at the wheels(SuperFlo numbers, Dynojet numbers will be higher)*** Power mods for the blue line are: Berk DP and full exhaust, ETS FMIC, HPA Drop-in, ER N55 charge pipe and ETS FMIC at 4 lbs boost over stock Power mods for the red line are: Berk DP and full exhaust, ETS FMIC, HPA Drop-in, ER N55 charge pipe and ETS FMIC at 4.5 lbs boost over stock Power mods for the black line are: Berk DP and full exhaust, ETS FMIC, HPA Drop-in, ER N55 charge pipe and ETS FMIC at 5 lbs boost over stock AFE N55 Intake Dyno chart is the second one. As you can see in the second graph, the blue line, which was dated 6-22-11 HPA4 was the best result from the first graph back on June 22. The black and red are the back to back runs with the AFE N55 Intake. Down low the AFE intake may have lost a few hp, but it more than made up for it starting around 4800-4900 rpm and all the way to the top, with a max gain of roughly 7.5 hp at the wheels. ***Dyno chart shown is with Dynojet corrected numbers*** Last edited by HP Autosport; 07-13-2011 at 09:55 PM.. |

Does the top of the intake box not have a lid? Is it close enough to the top of the hood that it doesn't need one? It just seems strange to me that the one for the N54 uses a totally closed design and the N55 version does not.

No lid, the gaskets should seal just fine.

Interesting, so it seals itself to the hood when its shut? Seems like some air can make it's way in through the intake piping entrance to the box. In for dyno results...

I think it all depends on the vacuum going into the box when the hood is closed.

As it looks like I'll have an N55 soon, I'd also like to see a dyno chart. Not just before and after, but also a week or so after as well with some mileage on it (to see about the rumor read here that the ECU whatever you want to call it eventually "autocorrects" the power it produces).
There's no history to doubt the claims but will still like to see it. Would create a lot of sales interest. |

Saw a couple of these in person yesterday. They look and sound good when in the car. Would like to know about power though...

If this is true, then why does the n54 intake have a fully closed design? Is the hood on n54s and n55s that different? I'd sure like to know why they felt the need to totally seal the one for the n54, but didn't feel like the same was needed for their n55 intake.

Looks like peak tq hits a few hundred rpms sooner and you get 9hp up high...not too bad if i'm reading the charts correctly.
