Hi, someone told me a few weeks ago that BMW do actually build 18" OEM CSL's

Can anyone confirm is this is true... thanks in advance

That's what i was thinking... are there any good 18" replicas out there... i've seen a lot of them on other cars and the rear wheels never seem to have a deep enough dish

Check out Apex Arc-8's that's what I just bought. They look great and are only ~18lbs each. Also they get a lot of praise here.

While we're on the topic of CSL rep's....I don't intend to track my car. I like the look of the CSL's but don't want to go to 19's and make the car ride any rougher than it does. That leaves me with shopping for 18" reps.

I come from driving Miata's for 12 years and am VERY sensitive to wheel and tire weight and how it affects handling/ride. The OEM wheels on the Z4M's seem to be heavy or the same compared to the rep's that I've looked into (~25lbs for the oem's).

From people that have experience (please), since there appear to be 18" CSL reps out there at less than 20lbs how does losing 5 lbs per corner affect the ride/handling of a Z4MR with the OEM suspension.

Here's the thread I started for just this topic. Most of them are VMR VB3, seem to be the go to around here.

Find a pair of Comp wheels off an E46 M3 Competition ($1K- $1.2K). Yes they are 19's, but they are lighter than OEM 18's, and as a result your ride quality doesn't suffer. I love mine, but they will be for sale in December as I prepare to sell the car.

ride quality is a function of wheel diameter, aspect ratio, and sidewall stiffness before it's one of unsprung weight, which is more of a determinant of performance metrics like acceleration, handling

That's a good sounding alternative, but I'm also concerned about making the ride quality worse by going to 19's from 18's. I live in Westchester County outside of NY City and the roads (especially after this past winter) are really in bad condition. (had to back my Miata out of a pothole because 1st gear wasn't low enough!).

If you're sensitive to wheel weight, you'll be amazed at the difference some Apex ARC-8's will make. I went from ~26F/30R lbs to ~18F/19 lbs rear. They look much better in person than in pictures, and I get compliments on them all the time.

True. My experience is that my 19's are my street wheels, and my stock 18's are my autocross wheels, so I change them out monthly. Driving on the same roads, I don't feel a decrease in ride quality when I have my 19's on the car.

With either wheel I do play dodge the potholes on certain roads that city has just forgotten about.
