Ticking noise after driving hard/aggressive??

I noticed this last night after going on a test drive and several hard acceleration runs.... i stayed out of boost for 1 mile on the way home, got into the garage and heard the ticking noise..... (i didnt panic because I've heard that same ticking before on a 330 after autoxing it)

shut the car down and started it up 15mins later and the ticking noise was gone....still gone this morning on the way to work

just wanna see if this happens to anyone else? is this one of those "normal" bmw things lol

OP - the N54 makes noise. Lots of noises. IF that bothers you... your dealer can download a new SW update... and most of these noises will be gone. However... so will your cracking, neck snapping throttle response (will be gone!). With the new SW update it feels like BMW detunes the motor some. I'd say 30 hp.

Most of these noises ARE indeed from the fuel injectors. The HPFP opperates at very high system rail pressure and this can sause a deisel like sound at idle. I personally do not worry about it. Its normal N54 noises - and I like them over the detuned SW update that BMW is handing out like M&M's. lol

I have found that by using (German)Castrol oil - the engine runs alot quieter then with running Mobil-1 oil. The engine also runs cooler with Castrol I have found. Just curious but which oil do you use?

I have the latest software update already i think.... got the HP back with the tune =p

using whatever oil bmw puts in cause I'm only at 9000 miles now.

IF you have the latest SW update you should have the new DSC icon on the dash when you switch the DSC off.

As for the ticking noise... just bc your car has low miles doesn't mean you could not stand new oil. Oil does get dilluted by fuel with lots of short trips and city driving. Thinner oil means less lubrication and more wear and more noise. That is all I am trying to point out when I mentioned oil type and how new it is.

If you think that this engine is loud try driving the E46 M3 with the S54. The injectors are twice as loud as the N54 and it also has tons of valve and Vanos noise.
