ER Chargpipe/BOV sound info
Hey all. Just generally asking this, hoping maybe someone from ER or a distributor or shop owner who knows bout this part on a professional level may answer.
Anyways, I have the ER chargepipe with the HKS SSQV bov on my 135 AT. Obviously i know its doing its job when I rev the engine in neutral or if im cruising and i go WOT and let off the gas completely, however when Im going WOT thru the gears, obviously being that I have the sporttronic, i dont need to let off the throttle, so I dont hear the valve releasing between shifts unless like I said I give it boost and let off the accel. I know driving a MT car with one of these you hear the pressure release between shifts cuz you obviously release throttle for a split second between shifts, with mine i do not. So im wondering, is this in any way impeding the performance and overall affect of the BOV? I mean the idea of it is to blow off the pressure to atmosphere thus allowing the turbos to spool faster and allow faster boost build, but since its not venting (or least enough to hear between shifts) could I be loosing performance do to this? I dont or havent really noticed a "decrease" really since having it installed, did this bout 8 months ago. Just looking for any input on this, preferably like I said someone with experience in this or someone with the same setup as mine with an auto. |

I have the ER charge pipe and Synapse BOV. My understanding is the steptronic holds boosts through gears and that's why we dont hear it being released. I imagine the dual clutch would be the same too.

The BOV's job and only job is to prevent compressor surge. It doesn't allow boost to build up faster. Compressor surge is what happens when you let off the throttle there's a split second where the turbo is still producing boost. If you do not vent this excess boost it will damage your turbo ie Compressor surge.
