Gasoline Smell in Engine Bay
So I was driving home from a friends house last night and pull up to a stoplight a mile from my house and smell this strong gasoline odor, I figure it's just the truck next to me, but when I got home and got out of the car there was a strong gasoline odor coming from outside the car.
I just had the HPFP and two injectors replaced two weeks ago under the recall. I also filled up my gas tank yesterday during the day. I have a service appointment this week for the seatbelt recall, I'll see what they say about the gasoline smell. Something has to be leaking in the fuel supply somewhere. I'll be driving the Subaru today and tomorrow I think. |

So I went out to start the car this morning and got a loooooong crank.
I never had a problem with the original fuel pump, now two weeks after getting one replaced under recall it's jacked up. I opened the hood and could smell gasoline. |

Something isn't right. I'd call BMW and ask them if it is safe to drive. Ask them if they will cover fire damage caused by a faulty repair. I'm sure they will offer to have it towed in.

DON'T DRIVE THE CAR !!! Someone obviously screwed your car up during the recalls. This happens more often than you think. Our high side hard lines can leak, even when tightened, if the fitting is not seated correctly or contaminated with foreign debris. The extended crank you expierneced only goes to prove you have a fuel leak. Please don't gamble and drive it.....The towing is free ! Just make sure the towing comapny hooks on your tow hook and not the suspension !

Muffnbluff, just noticed you're in the STL area... was the work done at West County (Suntrup) BMW? Wouldn't surprise me if that were the case... let me know, and if you don't want to put the dealer on blast then send me a PM.

I had happened the same situation as you did ! GO to dealer ASAP because soon you will broken your fuel pipe line, and fuel is leaking from pipe line and engine will not be restarted. I also did this HPFP recall in Taiwan, and some "God Dam" service didin't install in correct way, so end up I car stuck on the road.
It is very dergerous while you are driving !! Pictures for you to see ! By the way, check the TWO injector replaced steel fuel line first, and you will find the same happened shown as pictures. Last edited by binz135; 05-16-2011 at 05:28 AM.. |

Just picked up the car from the dealership. The description on the papers:
"Cause: High pressure pipe line for cylinder 5 fuel injector leaking at weld causing fuel leak" So Binz135 was right on the money. Hopefully this doesn't happen to the other high pressure pipe line for the other injector they replaced. I guess BMW needs a recall on a part that's failing due to replacing a part that was recalled. |

I am glad to hear Muffnbluff, your 135 is all back to normal ! The copper weld part of fuel line is break by unknown reason. My 135 is also broken in cylinder 5 , too ! What a coincidence !
