Keyed in Sunnyvale, CA
Hey Guys,
I always enjoy reading everyones post on this awesome forum and just wanted to share some unpleasant news regarding my jet-black e90 M3. This past Friday (5/6) on my way to work in my M3 to Sunnyvale, CA...I took the Mathilda Ave Exit from Hwy 237 (heading towards) El Camino and I stopped at the first strip mall with Lucky's and Starbucks to grab a cup of coffee. Sometime between 6:30AM-6:40AM (slightly dark outside) at Starbucks at the above-mentioned location. I cautiously parked the car away from everybody and took two car spots. Went inside Starbucks to get coffee and drove to work which was another 1/2 mile away (note still kinda dark outside). I drop my coffee off at my desk and go back to retrieve my bag and then all of a sudden I notice that my car was fucking keyed starting from the driver's side fender to the rear passenger door. When you view the pictures: the fender was protected by a clear-bra film which the asshole had trouble scratching the paint, so that person put a lot of pressure onto the driver's door and continued keying my car. Note: I drove to work without cutting/racing/or any other horseplay and this is what someone does to my car. I hope this f_cking person rots in hell and hope they f_cking pay dearly for this. Avoid this area, cause I know you guys have some really nice cars. I'm so f_cking pissed....oh well...now I'm working on getting her restored. Sorry I just had to share my frustrations. |

If there were a bunch of other car spots there should have been no reason for the person to key your car.
I mean...even if there weren't any other spots I don't understand why people damage someone else's car -___- Sucks this happened to you man, hopefully the repair doesn't cost too much. |

I always look for a corner space or a larger space, etc. I hate drawing attention to a car that gets plenty as is. Haters will always hate!
Sorry to see this. I've had a previous car keyed, it's not cool! Never take two spots though!

If there were plenty of open spaces then I don't get why taking two spaces would bother anyone, but on the other hand it does appear to make you a target for jerks, which is why I never do it. Sucks, man. Some people are just worthless.

Damn that sucks... I always thought Sunnyvale was a good area. Hope they catch that asshole soon. Agree with FStop7, I dont take up 2 car spots even when parking lot is packed. That creates attention and give haters/jerks/assholes a reason to vandalize a nice car.

First off, that sucks. Sorry to hear that some low life did this.
Anyway, I've found that you never want to make your car a target. Don't cut someone off right before pulling into a lot, don't steal a spot, don't park like a jerk, etc. Keep yourself under the radar. The fact of the matter is, our cars are not cheap and people are jealous. They will look for any reason whatsoever to key it. Taking up two spots, especially when there are not other cars around is not really effective and it makes your car stick out. |

Yeah, definitely never going to take two spots ever again. Actually I rarely ever take two spots, that morning I just felt like it was early in the morning and no one would mind...oh well.
Luckily my deductible is only $250, the damage is near $3k. I appreciate the constructive criticism and support. I'm never taking two spots again, regardless how early in the morning it is. She's being restored by one of the best body shops in the Bay, Brooks Motor Cars...they are certified by Aston Martin and most high end european vehicles. They assessed the damage and showed me their work on a car that was keyed all over....it was a dark blue car with metallic flakes in the paint....it looked better than OEM. Their work appears to be nothing short of brilliant. She should be back to her old self in a few weeks (not two weeks to restore, you know scheduling etc). I'll post 'after' pictures in a few weeks. I totally loved that video! thanks |

Jokes aside, Sunnyvale is a pretty descent area, its sad to see respect for others fading from society. Also, How much damage was done? Did it go through the clear bra? Guessing the 3k is painting and clear bra? |

That person probably has never worked hard and paid for his/her own car before so he/she does not understand the value.
Btw, taking two spots in a generally crowded area is a no-no. |

We did the initial installation...so obviously the perpetrator couldn't tell there's film on the car. From our observations, there is no paint damage underneath.

Yep, the front fender was undamaged, the film took the damage. Man I wish I had protected the doors as well!
