CDEV Delete... why did I wait so long
I got my car back from inspection II yesterday. I had it done at an INDY shop since im out of warranty. I had them pull the Clutch delay valve while they were in there, and WOW what a difference! If you havent done it DO IT. the car shifts much smoother, and feels like a regular car now... Ive had my car 4.5 years. why did I wait!

Not waiting that long. Bought in Feb. In the shop right now for installation of Cosmos Strut Brace, UUC SSK and removal of the CDV. I'm anxious to see the difference.

Hmmm....interesting. I have the CDV still in my Z4 only because I've read a couple opinions on here (or maybe z4-forum) saying that the CDV definitely transforms the car, but if you've gotten use to driving the car with it installed then it may take a while getting use to driving without it.
Maybe I'll give it a shot. I've been on the fence for a couple years now...

Just got mine from Zeckenufenhauschmidtzer, sitting in a bag on my desk, can't wait... going to do with the complete fluid change hopefully next weekend. Looking also for opinions on replacement transmission bushings. Seems the poly ones with no NVH are far too noisy.
Had the car for almost a month, and the shifting is driving me nuts, and I've shifted everything from dump trucks to vintage muscle cars to import missiles. Its so frustrating when you miss it, yet so rewarding when you nail it. |

It is rather shocking on how removing/modifying the CDV transforms the car. If you are reading this thread right now and have not yet removed the CDV…do it and you will fall in love with our car all over again.

it's a no-brainer mod. An absolute must. Shifts will be precise and follow your slightest touch, rather than be vague and slow to obey.

I'm just concerned about long term damage to the car. If it's unnecessary, why was it put in there in the first place?

I am all for progress but with every M car I've had over the years there have been more and more "safety" features that seem to suck the fun out of the experience (IMO). Oh, and CDV’s have been happily removed for over a decade without any negative consequences. |

I've never had any issues with the stock shifting, in fact, the stock CDV was smooth enough for me. The modified one is more direct and immediate (but probably less smooth as a result)

On the transmission mounts, go with the Rogue. The poly offer a very marginal improvement over the neoprene and doesn't address the other culprit: the engine. If you absolutely want to avoid denial of 2nd from 3rd then the Rogue motor mounts are the way to go as well. More info here. If the action of the shifter itself is bugging you, an SSK is probably the best bet. There's a good thread on how to do the install (which is a PITA like the mounts) here. A ZHP knob is a big improvement that some swear by to (go to LeatherZ--sold there). |

I'd be curious about the motor mounts, the RE tranny mounts have been sweet!

Im curious to drive a car with the CDV removed to feel the difference. I honestly dont have any problem shifting smoothly with my car as is. Took some getting used to at first but its second nature now.
