s-drive tires?

Anybody have experience with a set of yokohama s-drives, preferably in stock size? Just in case anbody wants to know, i would like a stiffer side wall to get some more feel over the stock tires and something that would be a little more confidence insipiring than the stock contis (I.E. lateral grip). Ive loved my advans that came on my old evo so i do like yokohamas.I wont be purchasing another set of any contis or bfgoodrich so not worth suggesting, have good reasons for both trust me. car will be used mostly for daily driving and country roads every now and then with maybe a track day a year.

elliot, is ur car still sitting on the original contis from 2006? these already have stiff sidewalls compared with other max summer performance tires. don't have an experience with yoko s-drives but i'm thinking of my next tire upgrade as mine have about 5,000 miles to go.

s.drive is only so so for it's priced

i would rec Hankook Ventus V12 over the S.drive if price is a factor
or else go with Dunlop Z1 star specs

If you like Yokohama check out the AD08, unless price is your primary motivator.

yea im still on the stockers after all they only have less than 15000 on them, i may look at the star specs, i heard that the v12s chunck very quickly. price is part of it and so is mileage but to me a stiff sidewall is one of the bigger factors as i love the road feel.

v12s have soft sidewalls and are on my radar for their awesome price ($520 after rebate + shipping), i'd just inflate them +2psi over normal to stiffen the feel a bit. alternatively, the new michelin pilot super sports are finally in-stock and pretty decent at about $950 + shipping.

ive been looking for a review of the super sport, hard to find tire to start with as well.

I think you'd like the Star Specs then. Square and stiff sidewalls, excellent responsiveness, and no tendency to chunk (assuming appropriate levels of camber). Great turn in and highly recommended, about 900 or so from Tire Rack. I hear the NT05s are pretty darn good too (and can be had for 800 or so from discounttiredirect).

i hated the s-drive tires, switched to hankook v12s and never looked back. would've gone star specs if price were not an issue.

nt-05 is about inbetween the invo and the nt-01 as far as track grip and street behavior

hmm i haven't tried a set of nittos in a long time so i might check those out, so far the star specs sound worth looking into as well. What didn't you like about the s-drives?

I have had Yokos S. Drives for about 8k miles and a bit over a year now. They are greased up and hard as rocks. I hate them. I really hate them. I am looking for the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs - C&D rated them number 1. Also considering the new Pilot Super Sports but they are pricey as always. Dunlops will be louder as they wear but hey.....

Just spent my first weekend on the track with PS2s, and I am much impresses with them for both grip in the wet and wear. With the PSSs out, I got them relatively cheap, so I'd recommend at least pricing them.

Hankook RS-3, cheaper and lighter than the StarSpec, albeit somewhat softer/grippier compound when they're warm.
