i usually get my stuff shipped to the states and drive down to pick it up. but for something thats only worth $48, its usually not worth it. in which case i'll just pop over to the local dealer to get whatever i need. if its a mod, you can usually get vendors on the forum to ship it by USPS.
i hate UPS and Fedex brokerage fees as well. i know how you feel.

Agree with Montreal. The Lewiston N.Y. UPS depot is about 50 minutes from me door to door and it's the only way I'll pick up tires, parts, etc. I always claim my purchases ('cause I'm law abiding don't 'ya know) and have only ever been asked (forced) to pay our taxes - never duty. Despite the fact that Tire Rack for instance offers an "all in taxes, brokerage and duty" package, I still save about $200.00 or more on a set of tires if I take the couple of hours to drive over, pick them up and then claim them on the way home. The only way to go for anyone in the GTA area if you ask me and I've been doing it for years.

Yep, UPS sucks big time! Fedex is much cheaper for brokerage charges and USPS is even cheaper again!

USPS only to Canada! And some of us are lucky enough to live within driving distance of the border to save a bunch on the actual shipping cost. If that's not an option, you can still use your own brokerage house even if it ships by UPS.
