Front of Z4M not stable

Hello

I recently changed from stock wheels to Morr's 8.2.
I use front: 245/19/35 and rear 275/19/30 Michelin PSS tyres.
I also have a broken rear spring. Not just the tip but let's say 2 circles are gone. This was already the case whith my 18' wheels so I don't think this the cause of my problem. I will replace the spring as soon as possible off course.

At low speeds everythings is OK, just a little less comfortable.
But at higher speeds the car feels like bouncing in the front.
The steeringwheel also trembles, before this was not the case.

I have 2.2 bar on the front tyres and 2.3 on the rear.

What can I do to prevent this except getting smaller wheel and tyres (which is not a possibility)?

Anyone with the same wheel and tyre size who experience the same?

Obviously, fix your springs to see if it fixes things. Make sure your tire pressures are equal. Your rims may also be out of round (did you hit a pot hole recently?). Drive on a different road to see if it's just the road. Get an alignment done to see if that fixes things. There are a lot of causes to steering wheel tremors. Good luck!

Check your alignment

Have your tires re-balanced and/or road force balanced

Check the hubcenter of the wheels, and measure it against the diameter of your hub. Could be a possibility that when you wheels were made the hubcenter was not bored the proper diameter causing the wheel to vibrate off center at higher speeds.

If it's simply from putting new wheels on I'd check the balance of them

1. Replace springs

3. Get 4 wheel alighnment and 4 wheel balancing

I can't say much about them right now because my car is driving not well at all.
When these problems are solved I hope I can enjoy the new tires and tell you more about them.

Thanks for the info.
I will make the pressure equal.
The reason I have different pressure front and rear is that with the stock tires the official pressure is also different.
I will fix the spring and check the wheel allignment. I'm wondering if I'm going to replace the spring with an oem or an eibach. Anyone have experience with the eibachs?
I have heard H&R's are not very good on a Z4m.

Hope this will help because I really love my new rims (Morr's 8.2) but I don't like the crappy ride.

You don't want to replace one spring with the Eibach. It's either all or none. I can't imagine that the car would handle well with two rear springs of different rates and heights. Maybe if you only want to turn left?

You know something is broken, so start by fixing the broken part. Then move on to alignment and checking tire balance.

Damned, I also wanted to put back the 2 stock wheels in the front and leave the new wheels on the rear . I really liked the rear rims better so it isn't a big deal. Maybe this will solve the bouncing problem

also let's get a shot of your car! vibrating would not be caused by bad alignment but you definitely need it. it's most likely your tire balancing. is it at certain speeds only?

Yes it starts at let's say 120 km/u.
But starting from speeds as 100 km/u the car doesn't feel very confident.

A few days ago I was a little dissapointed with the new wheels en tire setup on my Z4 M Roadster (Morr v8.2 and Michelin PSS's in 245/19/35 and 275/19/30 driven 200 km).
It felt like the car was not steady at higher speeds and I didn't felt confident to puch the car.
I told myself, damn I have spend so much money on expensive (but very beautifull) rims and expensive wheels and I don't like the ride.
Everytime I hit an imperfection on the road if feel a reaction in the steering wheel.
Then I thought by myself, I have to test this thoroughly and I went for a drive yesterday evening (and I mean a real drive

).
I grabbed the steering wheel like I was holding on to a million dollars and I pushed the car.
And wauw! It put back that smile on my face.
Ok, the wheels are 19" and the flanks of the car are smaller so the ride is harder and you feel more bumps. But the car held it's stability and even at high speeds (+ 200 km/u) I let loose the steering wheel and puched the gas pedal and the car felt just fine.
In bends I pushed the gas and it hooked to the road!
So I think I had to get used to the new setup and the tires had to settle a little bit.
My mechanic always says when mounting new tires "the harder you drive the faster your tires will be ready to enjoy"

The steeringwheel tremble was a tremble when I hit an imperfection on the road. And there are a lot of bad roads in belgium.

I do believe that 18" wheels with smaller wheels will enhance the driving experience but this setup is much nicer and the sacrifices aren't that bad.

In a few months I will test the car on the nürburgring ...

PS: I hope you can push a car to it's (street) limits with a broken rear spring

Don't you get tire rubbing up front at full lock?

Funily enough, just yesterday I got a wheel balancing on my VS8s mounted on the car and the shake is gone. I always thought that the tremble was caused by the missing bolts from the engine mount, but that was not the case.

I see you also have the Morr's 8.2 on your car.
Did you notice any problems after mounting the wheels? You speak about "the shake is gone"?

I had high speed stability problems. I also had a broken rear spring.
After a car allignment and replacing the rear springs car is back OK.

Any pics of your car with new wheels (except for the low quality one

)

Which tires did you choose?

No rubbing at front with Michelin Pilot Sport tires (245/35/19).
I needed 3 mm spacers at the back (275/30/19).

I have had my VS8s for a year and a half (not the newer VS8.2). I have had a vibrating steering wheel which I thought was due to the loose screws of the engine mount. After I changed the screws and the problem persisted I had a wheels balancing performed on the car and it was cured.

I am on my second set, have used csl dimensions, my current choice is conti sport contact 5P.
