DIY Front Lip repair
This is a follow on thread to the original where I was upset about the excessive amount of chipping in the clearcoat of my front lip (Arkym).
Instead of replacing the front lip, I decided to do the repair myself. Here are the results. Proceed at your own risk. I think the results speak for itself. I'm very pleased with the repair and the front lip looks great. Tim Here is what I was initally looking at. As you can see, the lip is damaged in the clear coat. Those are not water spots, those are chipping, flaking etc... It is noticable day or night and is ugly and looks cheap. The lip is completely clean. Here is what you will need. Don't bother starting with the 800 or 1500 grit. You will spend litterally hours and not do anything. Go straight for the 400 grit and go to work. As you start WET sanding, you will see the cloudy color of the clearcoat coming off. Even strokes and then concentrate on the chip areas. DON'T go too far into the actual CARBON FIBER! After you finish WET sanding you will see that the chips have been removed and the lip has a very dull look to it. Wipe it clean and then use alcohol to get it completely clean and dry. Next, get you a nice can of CLEAR COAT spray. Got mine at an automotive store. Recommend you go with Duplicolor cause it's the best. Give the lip a nice couple of light coats of clear coat, waiting 10 minutes between coats. Then on the final coat, go ahead and give it a thick one. With the clear coat on, it looks great! However, as you can see there is still "orange peel" on the surface of the lip. That is fine. You will now have to WET sand again after the lip is COMPLETELY dry. Use the 1500 grit or even 2000 grit paper for this. After the light WET sand, all the orange peel is not off and the surface of the lip is smooth but still dull. Now you need to get your favorite polishing compound and get to work. Buff the crap out of this and the lip will really shine with a smooth factory finish! Now you can see that the orange peel is gone and the surface is smooth and shiny! Here is the finished product. It turned out great and there are no signs of chipping or flaking. Plus there is another nice thick coat of clear coat applied to protect the Carbon Fiber. Hope this was helpful. Drive Safe! Tim

Hey awesome job!
How much experience do you have with this? Doesn't seem like a lot is required. I have the ZCP splitters and while I don't have much flaking or chipping yet, I do have some minor rock chips (you can't even really see them but I can because I am anal). I figured at some point down the road I will have to do something like this to repair them. Still throwing around the idea of putting a clear bra on the whole car Can't afford it right now and concerned about the yellowing on Alpine White... Great work!

First time. Did some research on clear coat repair and restoration and decided to go for it.
