Flying Through Tires :o
Yes I do realize this is a odd question but it's been bugging me since I can remember;
I change my rear tires on average every 10,000 miles. My brother and I both have the same driving style but he's somehow getting 17,000 miles out of the rears on his M6. He's always laughing at me when I have to dump $700 on a new set of rears. Do the PS2s on the M6 come with 40% more rubber? Do they last longer on the M6 because the tires are wider? How is this possible?

IMO 10k miles on rears is a lot.....
I usually change tires around 10-12k

Maybe you should not burn out or drift so often. I got 30k out of my PS2 rears. Changed the fronts at the same time even though they probably had about 5k miles left on them.

you must be the most annoying person to be behind, 10k on rear PS2s isn't that bad, I have friends that barely make it to 5k with non-AMG Benzs, even with my old CLK 6 cylinder PS2s only lasted about 12-15k miles.

i got about 11k myself, the real question is, when do you decide to change tires? I think sometimes, it's quite objective decision on when a tire needs to be replaced. I've replaced mine with less than 1/4 cm left to go before it hit the wear indicators.

then again I do use my tires at the track...and DD on them...so I guess that may be why mine die out quickly
They also see plenty of canyon runs

I think George Bernard Shaw is credited with the quote that Americans and Brits are, “two people separated by a common language”. That seems to have some meaning here, as folks obviously have very different perceptions of driving styles to which the same adjectives are applied. Unless Michelin did a run of all steel PS2 tires, they cannot be driven hard on the rear of an M3 (or any other rear drive car of similar weight and hp) and last over 10K-12K miles, depending on whether you go much past the wear bars.

I guess I am since I don't feel the need to drive like an ass. I average around 70 cruising (limit here is only 55). I think I can say I'm not holding anybody up and tend to pass more than I get passed. Driving fast doesn't mean you need to weave in and out of traffic or take turns at high speed throwing the back end out while you do it. I can get to my destination just as fast without all the showing off and make my tires last longer.

and you don't need to drive fast just cause you need to get to point B faster... it's not about getting to point B faster; it's about having a blast. I can go to the beach using partial freeway then some canyons. or i can go through the mountains and it'll all be canyons. the freeway will usually be about 5-10 mins faster (even though it's about 6 mi longer), but it's not nearly as fun, beautiful, or worthwhile. canyons will eat up your tires much quicker than freeways, even if you only go through the canyon at around 50 (not turns, but parts where the speed limit is 40 or so)
