I've had two E46 M3's in the past and I think that it's an upgrade from the previous gen. M3. Better technology and aftermarket performance potential for sure.

Had an M346 before I traded it in for my M392. And after a couple of weeks I could have kicked myself in the a** for it! I have missed my M346 ever since and if the 1M is half the car I expect it to be, it'll be much more my car than the M392 ever was. Up- or downgrade? Neither. A different car for sure but with the potential to be just as much fun as the M346 was. The M346 made me smile every morning and every evening and I hope the 1M will do the same. An M392 is a perfect cruiser, fast as hell on the Autobahn, but it feels as agile as a concrete slab, when you plant it on a winding road. I want the animal back. The car that makes my hands sweat. My black beast. And I'm pretty sure, the 1M can be just that. Fine with me, I'm not asking for anything in addition!

2003 E46 CB/Cinn here. I'll let you know how I feel about it after I get my allocation and after I drive it. Plans are to keep both and assume the performance upgrades for 1M will be a hoot if they are anything like for my son's 335i

I will part out my e46 m3 and start getting rid of all parts and then the car. sad to see it go but i think its time for a upgrade. I am just hoping that it will live up to all the stuff i've been reading. The fact that I don't get to see or drive the car kind of scares me.

I have a 2003 SMG coupe with just under 70k miles. I put the deposit down on the 1M when it was just a rumor in 2005 or so, and bought the E46 shortly afterwards when it was pretty clear the thing was years away. Now the 1M is finally here, and I have to admit to some ambivalence, despite owning an April production slot. I don't see the 1M as being significantly different in performance and function than the E46 M3. Plus, I honestly hate to give up the sunroof - and (I NEVER thought I would say this) the flappy paddle gearbox. One day I'm excited about the 1M, the next I think about giving up my slot. I am a little lukewarm about the Halloween color pallette, and have never really grown to love the lines of the 1.
One thing that keeps me hanging in is the exclusivity - I tell myself to just get the thing, and if it doesn't thrill me, just sell it to someone who didn't have the foresight to put down a deposit, but really has to have one. I know if I walk away, I will likely never even SEE one again LOL. Since I'm probably doing Euro delivery, I'd get the chance to drive it a bit, have a European adventure, and see if it grabs me. But I do wish I was a little more stoked about it. |

I know I will miss my e46. It has been a wonderful car and I haven't had any major problems with it. I've also spend quite a bit upgrading the I.C.E. I guess its a thing of the past now. I look at some of the e90's and love the new tech that BMW has added to the newer models. But I think I will not mod the car this time.. It seem to have everything in there.
