ED timing with dealer allocation

let's assume you are #1 on the dealers list with a price set and deposit submitted. the dealer has only one allocation- for April production and late May delivery.

let's say i want to do ED in June? is the car produced in April and then just waits at the Welt? Or is the dealer able to adjust the production slot so that my car would be produced nearer to my pickup date?

if the answer is the car waits for me, is there some sort of maximum time they'd allow?

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. I tried to ask in the "Ask A Dealer" thread, but I could not get the fellow there to understand the question above.

My SA told me that ED is so backed up, even if the car is produced in April, you might not be able to get an ED date until mid/late summer. Of course - the fact that ED for this car has been confusing from the get-go has not helped anyone in getting good information.

Same news over here, my dealer says ED in general is 90 days out. So I asked him what happens if my allocation is for May but the first ED is in June. He said that hopefully the ED waitlist won't be so long by the time the allocation comes. Makes me think I might not get my allocation for a while.

Dealer

My dealer had no useful information for me on this as well.

Maybe we need a BMW north America rep to answer this one

It was no issue for me, told my dealer I want July ED, and that is what it will be. Earlier months may pose a problem, but mid summer and later should pose no logistical issues as production and flow should be humming along.

@M1...is it that your dealer had multiple allocations and simply put you into one near your desired ED date? Or was the allocation/production date able to move to accommodate you?

It was probably more the former, than the latter, though tough to say. I know for a fact he has a minimum of 3 allocations, and the second one was in line with my preferred date (though I technically think it is a June build with an end of July delivery, hence why I believe there is some leeway). G/L, hopefully you can time it right!

On a similar note, you say your dealer has at least three allocations. They already know when they will come? Mine got the first allocation already and is confident he will get more but has no idea when. I was hoping there would be another round of allocations coming up here soon?

@ M1- thanks for the response and details.

@ snowfro - i think all of the initial allocations have been made to dealers and they know roughly when the production will be. as we know, some dealers got one and others got more. in terms of the dealers who are confident they will get more, this seems to assume another round of allocations. but if that was the case, why would some of the initial allocations be so far off already?
