Getting tires today...
Stock conti's are tearing up In the rear. Getting PS2's since PSS's aren't available yet. Have stock wheels, want to run 245/40/18 and 265/35/18. Your thoughts? Some people like a square 245 or less drastic of a difference from stock.

Have a look at Conti DWs! They just get awesome ratings everywhere I look, and they're considerably cheaper than PS2s. I've had Conti 3s on my car for nearly two years now, and they've been fantastic. Going with the DWs soon tho!

Square 245 too small on the rear
Definitely consider Conti EC-DW though. I went from PS2s to these, same if not better ride, same if not improved road noise and I'm running substantially wider tires than stock (255/285). Contis have had some generalizations made about them because of older bad tire designs. This tire is a new leaf for them IMO, I'm thoroughly happy with it.

Well I had to reschedule for thursday so I have time for research...
I loved the Conti's on my Audi, but everyone with an M car raves about PS2's. Wet performance is not a priority, ride doesn't matter, road noise isn't a big deal. Just want at least 10K miles out of the tires and the best feel/grip. |

PS2's are overrated and overpriced IMHO. Since you've got 18's, go with Dunlop Direzza Z1 Sport Star Specs. The star specs are one level above the PS2's in terms of category/hierarchy, they outperform the PS2 in both dry and wet, have similar treadwear/traction/temperature ratings, and are a crapload cheaper per tire.
If you're one of those people that believe more money = gotta be better, thennn I can also recommend Bridgestone RE-11's. I've personally had a lot of experience with the Star Specs from when I was tracking my MR2 exclusively (this was before I got my MC). And if anyone knows about MR layout cars, they're very twitchy at speed. Especially the MR2, which was known for snap-oversteer. I've also tracked with PS2's before, albeit not on all four corners; only up front. They're good tires, don't get me wrong. But I think their prices are ridiculous compared to Star Specs. I've not had any experience with RE-11's yet, but only because I was able to find a replacement for Star Specs (they don't make 19" sizes, which is what I have on the M coupe at the moment). I'm currently using NT05's with very satisfying results =] |

Well I took a different route. Saw PS2's were $1300 after tax. $1300 reminded me of Crimson92's part out (Bought other things from him), he had a set of practically new wheels/tires for $1300. Check his thread, Currently 1K. Saved myself $300, got VMR V701's, and Hankook V12's. Plan is to keep these until they're worn. Sell Stocks and VMR's, Buy Wedsport SA-55M's.

haha nice. Yeah, there are PLENTY of tire options out there. Really depends on the individual's intended use and/or budget and/or geographical locale.

I agree! PS2's use to b the staple of good performance street tires... but that was years ago. There are many other good options out there that are cheaper and better. People that buy PS2s are for the name more than anything any more. We ran Star Specs on our lemons car last year (~20 hours) and they held up great over an extended time of being worked.

Well the PS2's are on. They are still an amazing Improvement over the last tire. I know there are newer and better tires but I've always liked PS2's, and the PSS's weren't available yet, so I stuck with what I know. Luckily they had it In stock. I did consider the Continental Extreme Contacts and the direzzas but neither were available for a full set In my sizes.
Only issue is DSC Kicking In when I tried accelerating on am onramp. Reset TPMS and it's all good now. |

Im seriously debating whether or not to go for either:
A - new set of PS2s, stock rims, 255/275x35x18. I love the ones I have now! B - Direzzas, stock rims, 255/275x35x18, little cosmetic mods C - Used set of ZCPs/tires D - used set of PS2s, in hopes of a new set of ZCP and tires in the more distant future E - used set of PS2's and coilovers

I have 245/45 snow tires and they rub, wasn't terrible with stock suspension but lowered it's much more exacerbated. Everything I've looked at online says 245/40 is the max you can run up front without major rubbing
