Exhaust, what to do

I know there's a couple threads here about exhaust, but I really want some more opinions. It seems to be such an inexpensive option to just get a Megan Racing Axle back, a Supersprint x-pipe, and an aFe Stake II intake: this setup seems as if it would add some power, but what I'm more interested in is the sound. From the videos I've seen of the Megan exhaust, it doesn't seem that different from stock. I'd LOVE it if someone could convince me otherwise from real life experience with the exhaust and just make up my mind. That whole set up would be ~$1500-$1750.

However, I keep going back to the videos of Gintani's full race exhuast and the Meisterschaft GT2 rear. I love the sound of both, but Gintani would be ~$4000 for the full system, and the Meisterschaft would be ~$4200 for the full system.

If anybody has any insight, please tell me your thoughts. Would the first setup I mentioned provide any similar sound or performance to either of the others I mentioned. Or is it really just apples to oranges. I mean if I could do that first set up and get what I'm looking for out of it, that's $2500 left over for other things I'd like to do.

I love the Meisterschaft GT2! Prices I saw were $2400 for steel, $4k for titanium.

In the thread about the BMW Performance exhaust, I posted a link to a fabulous video that compares all the major exhausts in various contexts (revving, fast take-off, slow take-off, cruise by….). It's still just video, but it's the closest thing to a straight comparison I've found online.

Pick up a used exhaust. Some good deals out there, like 1600 for a gintani

Mod oem exhaust by getting a custom test pipe installed.

Akra and all that shit is expensive and ridiculous for no reason.

weight and a slight decent sound... meisterschaft is a great bang for buck and megan racing also!

A couple threads? You realize if you go here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=124 you'll find that what's written about exhausts could literally fill a book. About half the threads are about exhausts.

Forgive my ignorance but what do you mean by a "test pipe"?

Yes there are. And this is another one asking the question the way I wanted to, looking for advice concerning my particular aftermarket exhaust pursuit.

Is the megan racing exhaust that great? I know it is inexpensive, but there's only a couple video clips and I really can't tell if it sounds that great. I was hoping there would be someone who had seen it in person.

Shitcan this idea because the gains are bullshit. It's very-very difficult to improve upon the stock airbox system. Get a High-flow filter like Active Autowerke's Green element instead. Then take the left-over money and buy an underdrive pulley.

to summarize
you take off the exhaust, cut it open from the top
replace 2 perforated pipes with straight pipes
seal the muffler, and install it
makes it louder, with more bass, for lack of a better word.
and all the changes are undetectable from underneath the car.
i have such an exhaust, and it sounds great, not crazy loud
and below about 2500rpm sounds like stock, which means no drone when you are on the highway.

Awesome, thanks for the info! I figured +18hp aFe claims seemed a bit ridiculous .....

The Megan Racing exhaust is the same thing as the Agency Power exhaust so when watching youtube videos look that up to. If you put on a HFC x-pipe or an off road x-pipe with the MR exhaust it will be plenty loud. MR is coming out with an off road x-pipe soon and it will be dirt cheap so that is the way to go.

I emailed Megan about an x-pipe and the response I got said they "weren't doing an x-pipe for the E92"

I keep seeing the rumors that they are so thats why I emailed, but maybe they aren't, or maybe they're just keeping it quiet... not sure why they would do that.

And is it really the exact same thing as the agency?

Read this thread towards the end... http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=462717

And yes the Agency is the same thing there are threads on the subject. They look and sound identical. They are even both offered in both TI and SS tip versions.

Interesting... I emailed them last night and received their response that there is no x-pipe for the E92 M3. And the end of the month is here, so if that thread was right, it would be here... who knows.

I'm leaning towards just getting what I really want which is the Gintani Sport full system. But the price hurts a bit more than Megan....

I have Dinan everything on my E46 330ci and it does sound great, but I want a little more noise. The Dinan exhaust is definitely classy, but its not quite as aggressive as I want.

You'll get a better sound from the Dinan when it's attached to the V8. I had a E36 Dinan S3 ///M3 and this with less sounds so much better........Phil
