Track Wheels - what actualy works?

Hey,

I'm moving out of my e90 335 and looking at eventually getting into a 135. It's been tough to sort out what works on the tire/wheels set up since it's hard to separate the set up for looks v. performance.

Would like to hear suggestions on what actually works. Since I plan on tracking the car I expect to really exercise the full range of motion on the wheels, so "only rubs when the car is full" or "wont rub at stock height" will not work for me.

Here is my ideal set up - 18" with 245 up front and 265 in back. Also, would be running an LSD so I wan a little more tire in the back.

I'm willing to roll the fenders and will use camber plates.

Can I do it? what wheel size offset have worked for you guys?

Thanks -

I run the Apex ARC 8s with 245/40, 265/35 Hankook R-S3. No fender rolling at all, but I do have Vorshlag camber plates in the front (a must for real tracking to get the camber needed). With -1.7 front for street they fit great. Goes to -2.4 for track. I have also run 245/40, 265/35 BFG R1s with no issues as well. They will take 275s in the rear with no mods needed if you wanted. I'm somewhat lowered on AST 4100s. You can run 235s in the front if you don't have plates. These wheels are light and you can feel a difference vs. stock right away. I'm thinking of buying a second set. they also take the BMW center caps and look nice. I love them for street and track

I also have the Apex ARC-8s. They're your best bet and the only 1 Series specific fitment to allow maximum tire width. Go with 8.5" F & 9.5" rear with the tire sizes you want, add camber plates, and you'll be good to go. I run 255/265 Yokohama AD08s and highly recommend them. For an easier fit, go 245 front.

Great news! Wheel offsets?

Also, I will be running AST's with Swift springs and Ground Control camber plates. Very excited to hear 245/265 combo will work.

The APEX wheels that aisthetes has are the same ones I have. 38mm offset in front, and 63mm in back. The AST's are a great setup. Let us know how that works when you get it installed. Pictures are welcome also!

You can see the wheels at http://www.apexraceparts.com/ARC-8-1...heel_p_52.html

That's the front wheel. The rear wheel is 63mm, but the website may still have a typo on that.

Also saw these:

Apex it is. Thanks for confirming - Coming from a 335 E90 I'm completely sold on the car now. This was my last hesitation, struggling with undersized tires.

The rear 18x9.5" ARC-8 has a 62mm offset.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The currently in stock 18x8.5" front wheels have a 38mm offset, but we made a more 1 series specific 18x8.5" front wheel with a 45mm offset that will be available in about 30 days.
The 38mm offset is needed when running a wide 255 front tire due to strut tube clearance issues, but it really pushes the wheel out there which causes fender issues. The new 45mm offset is a cleaner fit and more intended for 235 or 245 sizes without the need for fender rolling.
The AERO-7 wheel linked above is not our dedicated track wheel. It's our street wheel and intended only for 225/255 combos only. It won't work with more rear rubber as wide rubber needs a specialty offset that only the ARC-8 wheel can provide.
you need camber plates for the 245 fronts, but the 265's bolt on the rear as of the car came that way from the factory
Question about the arc8s, can I put the roundel in the center instead of Apex? Really like to keep the car stock looking, or as close as possible.
Absolutely. Our APEX caps are basically a replica of the OEM cap. They fit just like the OEM cap with the intention of them being replaced for a perfect factory fit.
62mm it is for the rear! But the website for the 9.5" rear wheel shows 35mm in the text, and 38mm in the specs. See: http://www.apexraceparts.com/ARC-8-1...ment_p_54.html
The new 18x9.5", 35mm offset version of the ARC-8 wheel by Aftermarket Performance EXpress. Available in four finishes."
Part number has the correct 62mm listing.
