That's possible at least until / if more are allocated. According to BMWBlog.com, Canada is sold out of their allocations as well. BMW has released any information in a while, so other than the dealers there isn't much to go on.

I just can't believe that they will put the 1M into the dealer's showrooms in May (when the official 1M debut is) and put a sticker on it "sold out".
I'm pretty sure BMW will produce some more for each country in 2011 and perhaps even go on with the production in 2012, if the car keeps selling. |

I agree. Why are they continuing to push the marketing on this car when they'll end up pissing off a lot of potential customers when it's sold out before the official launch date?
The major car magazines haven't even received their test cars yet. I can picture them adding a quick sentence at the end of the review... "One of the best M cars in a long time. But forget about going to your dealer, they're already sold out."

It's a halo car, if you can't get one they reckon on you getting a 125/135 instead. All money in the bank for BMW, they don't care which exact car you're in just as long as it's a BMW.
Apart from shipping the car to a few motorshows and placing some cheap viral ads on the net, they've spent a minimal amount on marketing it too. |

Remember though, Dr. Segler indicated very early on (in the step 1 Marketing video) that we "would have to wait."
In retrospect, one could say that we were given some warning, vague as it may have been!! I believe BMW have good intentions, and do want to meet enthusiast demand, but there are no doubt many factors that come into play, and there will be a balancing act with respect to keeping production relatively small so as to not dilute the car's exclusivity, vs satisfying customers, vs meeting CAFE standards, vs sharing previously planned 1-series production at Leipzig. Could there be an underlying strategy to allow some pent up demand remain unfilled? Don't know. |
