I thought the entire point of not creating a 1er saloon was to not compete with 3er, I don't think this will ever happen.

I think that's the point. Same car, same length, same wheelbase, but 4 doors instead of 2 doors.
Nice try, but the 1 coupe is too small for 4 doors.

PS: The 1 hatchback will offer you 5 doors if you need more than 2.
But not available as M, and not available at all in the USofA.
