Ticking noise..SA say "Normal"
Periodic clicking noise from my engine compartment....cold or hot engine temp....BMW says it's my injectors firing. Really....a $60K "ultimate driving machine" and you can hear the fuel injectors firing from inside the car with the windows up? Anybody? 2007 530Xi with 46,000 miles. |

I happened to be at a large auction yesterday where hundreds of 3 and 5 series (coming off leases) were sold. A fairly large percentage (~30%) of them had the "tick". Don't know if that helps, but yours are obviously not the only ones.

I wouldn't just leave the issue unresolved. Take it to a different dealership, or get an independent shop for a second set of opinions. Mine makes the same ticking noise on random days in the early mornings. I did manage to ask a mechanic regarding this issue. He told me it could be the valve lifters not getting enough oil into the valves, which, could possibly caused the ticking noise. My car is due at the dealer next week as I am still under the manufacturer's warranty.
