2008 135i HFFP- My experience aka "Beating the Dead Horse"
I know I am not a frequent poster here on the forum, but I just wanted to share my recent experience with what I believe to be a HFFP issue.
Yesterday after work on the way to the gym I was on a major high traffic road and I downshifted from third to second to turn onto the road the gym is on. As I did this the was a: 1)shutter/hesitation, 2)the engine symbol came on, 3)check engine soon light came on 4)complete loss of power as I rolled to a stop off the side of the road I attempted to start the car again immediately and the engine stuttered and died. After calling BMW roadside assistance I tried to start the car again, was successful and pulled the car off to the side into a designated parking area. The car was then towed to the dealership. I am waiting today to hear from the dealership. Details on the car: 2008 135i, completely stock, HFFP already replaced once, 19.5K miles. The first replacement was due to hesitation on cold start. I love the N54, but I am disappointed that BMW has not found a permanent solution to this problem. I have read all the previous posts about people who had the HFFP go out while driving, but figured that must be the 0.000001% of N54 owners. When it happened I really began to rethink if the car is safe to drive on an everyday basis. Hesitation on cold start=no big deal. BUT for the car to have a sudden loss of power while traveling at 50mph on a busy major road definitely has me concerned. Well I'm done venting...I'll see what the dealership has to say. Has anyone with the "updated" HFFP reported any failures? |

I haven't had any problems with the HPFP but I just took my car today to the dealer for wastegate rattle. Apparently, I am having recall work on the fuel pump and the injectors.
I have a 11/09 build. I'll let you know what happens and if they replace the pump or not. They should not replace it but if they do, I'll leave some feedback.

Whatever pump I had before, I now have the 446 HPFP.
Even though the recall went up to 10/08, it now applies to some newer builds. I am not sure how far it goes, but mine was due. The ride feels slightly jerky in stop-and-go traffic, which it was smoother before, but it feels like it has a little more power. It's probably just placebo but who knows. (No Dyno) If for any reason this pump dies on me, I'm going to be pissed. My HPFP never had a stutter. I am now at 55,300 miles. Mostly highway, of course.

Should have gone in for the recall that was posted a few months ago. They would have done the injectors, software, and replaced the HPFP at your leisure. That may have saved you the trouble of getting a tow and all that jazz.
