Only dynoed 304.9whp on DD

Got my car dynoed for the the very first time at Rogue Engineering (thanks for getting me in Ben

). I've seen most cars dyno at around 320-340 stock. Best results with my car was 304.9 on a dyno dynamics. I'm stock except for my eisenmann race and running 93 octane.

Fan was running but the hood was closed if it makes any difference. I asked for the file, but Ben said it's not available, so this is all I have:

Is this normal? Should I be concerned? I'm getting a compression and leakdown test soon.

I had my '99 M3 dynoed on that exact machine not too long ago. The Dyno Dynamics machines tend to read on the low side... I put down 220.7 WHP and was AMAZED. I was guessing more like 185-195.

get a compression test done....

if the numbers okay I wouldn't worry too much.

how many miles do you have on your car?

Should be getting that done next week. Do you know what numbers are good for the s65?

My car dyno'd 320whp when it was heat soaked in summer, and 335whp a week ago when it was nice and cool. I talked to one of the Active guys and he said their stock M3 dyno'd 333whp before they put on their blower. So it seems like 330-340ish is the norm with good conditions at sea level.

The dyno could have been setup differently the day that I made my runs. After I made my runs I saw a bone stock F10 550i put down ~360 WHP/391TQ. A few E9X M3's made runs too but I don't recall their numbers. :-/ I want to say they were in the 340-360 range, but I'm not 100% sure.

What type of dyno where your runs on? I was expecting 320-340.

Ben said mine was normal, but it still seems low compared to everyone else's. I'll ask Ben what settings he used tomorrow.

I think it's just a matter of Dyno Dynamics being the infamous "heartbreak dyno."

It's definitely the dyno dynamics. If you dyno your car on any other dynamometer you will see right about 320-340WHP.

My guess is that your car is just fine

. Rogue probably isn't running a large correction factor. FYI, Gintani's dyno dynamics reads stock e9x M3's at 300-305 since they updated their software.

The racecar in my signature consistently dynoed 104-105whp on a Dynapack, and consistently competed with and won races against cars with 120-125 dynojet whp, with very little to choose between them on the track. The one time I put that engine on a dynojet, it made 118whp. On the dynapack by varying a few parameters like run length, gearing, I could make the car put out 90 to 120+whp. Go to the track and if it traps in the 109+mph range in the 1/4 mile you're probably fine, or get a Vbox and compare to other people's results if you're really worried about it. Dynos are dynos and the track is the track. One is a tuning tool, the other thing is a place where you can determine the performance of the car.

You're absolutely right. I'm normally not about the numbers but this made me a little concerned. As long as everything is normal I'm happy. Can't wait for all this snow to melt and get back out on the track

What have other M3s put down on that dyno?

Others might not agree with this, but I think the easiest way to test your car is to do a few friendly runs with other M3s. You'll quickly find out if your car is on par or not.

OP: hood down is important IMO, as I don't see anyone driving around hood up, so that little bit of extra air flow can sometimes/most of the time inflate advertised numbers/gains. Just make sure you perform your next dyno on the same DD as well as same operator (if possible)....think of this as your "pre-dyno"

Don't do anything yet.

First thing is that you have a very very natural power delivery / perfect power curve.

It's most likely the dyno correction factors that are playing their hand here.

Without knowing the correction factors NOTHING should be said!!

I can guarantee you there is nothing wrong with you car and if I have some time today I will use this example to show how important correction factors are and how useless it really is to talk about power output without these.
