Google believes I'm in the market for a 911 GTS
I've been noticing a lot of ads for the Porsche 911 GTS while surfing around. It just dawned on me that this is probably a result of my previous surf/search history. I get a lot of Audi A6/A8 ads as well.
Anyone able to confirm this is how it works?

You are correct. It's Google's AdWords hard at work!

Google analytics, double click, google adsense, and whole host of others like it. Welcome to the Internet. And remember to wave, big brother is watching too.
Have a nice day.

I also get a lot of GTS ads. Thing is though I am on here much more often than any porsche site. I did spend about an hour on the official porsche webpage a week or so ago. Unfortunately a GTS isn't financially feasible for me at the moment

It is re-targeting and behavioral targeting. Sometimes works amazingly well, but generally uses very simple rules (e.g., you went to a luxury car forum few times and live in expensive zip code, so you get porsche ads).
A colleague of mine (single, 40+) once had to demo a kid-friendly facebook app to a bunch of educational institutions, and that very day facebook "decided" that he needs to see a ton of ads from dating services. That was not something acceptable for the demo, so the guy changed his status to married - the ads stopped, but he got few dozen voicemails and emails from confused friends and family before he was done with the demo |
