I didnt have too much trouble getting into work today. I have Hankook Icebears. Both of us have performance oriented winter tires, which are not the best for todays weather, but the only thing that would have got me stuck would have been ground clearence. Even got up hills without too much drama.

Yep!I used my E46 M3 in the winter and it was a very frustrating experiance on a real snow day. That is why we always have at least 1 4x4 or awd in the household. Our street is always on of the last to get plowed and a couple of winters ago my wifes 335 scraped for most of the way in from the main road for a lot of the winter.

WFH day for me. Made it to Starbucks with no probs on the 19" snows. The car really surprises me sometimes. Had an STI before which was super capable but this thing really is not that bad in the snow.

I now have Nokian Hakka R's and I had no drama getting out of my unplowed subdivision. The bottom was scraping the snow. |

I personally find that for the amount of snow we get a performance oriented snow tire works well. Can count on one hand how many times you would drive on heavy snow. I guess I dont drive my car those days so I dont worry about it. I had PA3's and like them. I have Sottozerros now and like them as well.

I have PA2's on my M3 E90 and hate them. Chicago just got 20 inches and I'm going to do the only thing I can do, which is look at adjusting pressure, and throwing 2 bags of sand on front of the rear axles.

To be honest, I don't know how the PA3, PA2 and Sottozero get such rave reviews. Granted they are amazing on cold dry pavement but they are not even close to OK in deep snow and ice. People who say they have driven them in 4+ inches of snow and are happy make me scratch my head. I have driven in Canadian winters my entire life with many rwd cars so I think I know what I'm doing and have never really had a problem. With the PA3 I don't trust the car in anything more than a light snow. I am switching to either LM-60s or Hakka's next winter for sure.

Driving on stock 19" with Blizzak LM65s is just fine. Fresh fluffy snow is the worst, slush is difficult, and black ice and packed snow are not a problem at all. In fact, on ice I felt more confident in M3 with Blizzacks than in G35x (AWD) with fresh all season tires. I actually went to Blue Mountain one day with 15+cm of snow falling that day without any difficulty, which was a bit of a surprise to me.
My only problem so far was bottoming out in the lane near garage entrance. I think M3's biggest issue is low ground clearance. Other than that, it is great in winter - electronics do wonders, and it's very easy to control. |

I have dunlops on my c63 and usually have no problem. But I went and borrowed my bro's range after last night. Just because of the lack of clearance.
