Good Daytona weekend for BMW

Kind of surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet on the main bimmerpost page. The BWM powered Rileys of Target/TELMEX/Chip Ganassi came in 1-2 in Rolex DP. About 2 hours from the end of the race with Joey Hand piloting the 01 car he hit a front tire left too close to the car during a pit stop. This resulted in a 30 second green flag stop and go penalty which ended up putting the car more than 50 seconds behind the leader. In the ensuing 2 hours, Hand and finally Pruett brought the car back hard for the win. The new for 2011 Turner Motorsport Rolex GT M3 had a trans failure in the first half of the race but ran on pace with the leading TRG Porsche - if not for the trans failure would have been a definite contender based on lap times throughout the race.

In Continental Tire GS the RumBum M3 placed first, a repeat of last year; 6 of the top 10 cars were M3s.

Quite a successful weekend for BMW in Grand Am racing!!

I thought the 02 came in first with the 01 in second?

I'm okay with it for one - Montoya comes to Grand Am and forgets that he's not in a stock car and drives too much like a Nascar driver. The other nascar drivers actually have a bit more finesse than he does when in a DP car, surprisingly enough considering Montoya's history... Pruett is becoming something of a legend of Grand Am, if he wasn't already before this year's 24.
