Own or Loan

Branching from the "How much do you make poll", I think it would also be inetersting to see who took out a loan for their Z4 and who paid up front.

Simply put:
If you took out a loan for the car you fall into the Loan category.
If you paid cash up front then you are in the Own category.
If you paid off the loan you still fall into the Loan category.

Just noticed you're in Warminster, PA - only reason I know of that city is because I used to work with a large packaging supplier in that area, Double H - talk about random

But back on topic, I'm using Penfed as well with the same rate.

First car

I've owned in years, always leased, it's nice to own, no payments and a title in the draw. I guess a lot easier with an "old" car.

Loan. Put down about 50% though. Buying an engagement ring and a house in the last year means no flat out purchase for me.

I would have financed though even if I did have enough to pay outright. Id rather pay in small increments as I go along than one huge lump sum. Can always pay if off early if I choose.

Loan, could have bought it outright but I wanted to keep cash on hand for emergencies. The car was too good a deal when we found it to pass it up (and I figured finding one later would become harder and harder to do), so the plan was to pay it off in a year rather than pay in a lump sum. Yes, there was some "penalty" to this in terms of interest, but I felt better about paying that and keeping reserves at an adequate level. The car will be paid off in March.

There is a skew to this poll as some are the original owners, so the cost was $45K+ vs 2nd owners where the cost is less than $30K

There's all sorts of variance. Take the price of an M and compare that to a 2.5i, for instance. Or the price differences across the world. Example: the M roadster was 83.000 euro (113.000 USD in todays exchange rate lol) new over here, without options.

But you can still have the poll, variance or not.

I had a 0 down mortgage, I then refinanced my home, took the money, put down 3 down payments on expensive property, rented them out and took out a refinancing loan on two of those, the third one I sold as a time share. I then used the money to create a new social networking startup, got some angels and VCs to invest, we IPO'd and I short saled everything.

Loan. Had to have a little extra to pay for the Z. Got about 50.000$ from the bank in may 2010. Payed it back in september
The total cost for my Z4 was 87.000$.
So I now own both the E46 and the E86

The 3%-4% range is available especially if you have a sizable downpayment, its the 1% that is shocking to me. I may have to look for that one the next time. I couldnt find anything better than 4% when I bought mine so I just paid cash for it.

They should send the bankers who thought of that on a penal colony located on an island. That will teach them! ;D
