Minor AccessPORT Update Coming

We are about to roll out a minor update for the BMW AccessPORT. In the past week we have focused our efforts on implementing a few developments that will make new ROM integration easier. This firmware update is expected to be available on Friday, 01/28/11.

The new ROM consolidation will eliminate unique maps for automatic transmissions vs. manual transmissions. Going forward the AccessPORT maps will be unique only by ROM type. This will make downloading Off-the-Shelf maps easier and allow us to more efficiently integrate new ROMs as well as manage the online map database when maps are upreved.

We have also identified an issue which is causing some vehicles with the MSD80 ECU and manual transmission to go into limp mode. A load limitation was discovered and has been removed.

Please be aware that the map consolidation involves map structure changes. To resolve this issue, users will have to complete the following steps: Completely Uninstall of AccessPORT, update the firmware, and then reinstall the AccessPORT. This will automatically install a new map on the ECU.

Implementing these important updates on the AccessPORT has temporarily delayed integration of new ROMs submitted by customers with the Unrecognized Vehicle message. We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and can appreciate the frustration felt by those that purchased the AccessPORT and are unable to use it. We are committed to having all of the dumped ROMs we have received to date integrated into the firmware by Monday, 01/31/11.

Please note that your 30 day satisfaction guarantee will not include the time spent waiting for your BMW to be supported due to the Unrecognized Vehicle message. We want you to have a full 30 days to evaluate the performance and functionality the AccessPORT brings to your BMW N54.

As promised, we have released a firmware update to all BMW AccessPORTs. What’s more, Rob has been working very hard to implement all the ROMs he has received to date and we are able to include this support ahead of schedule! If you are still awaiting confirmation of support for your 335i or 135i, this update will enable AccessPORT support for you ECU.

All AccessPORT maps have been consolidated by ROM type. There is no longer a distinction between automatic and manual maps. This update also fixes the load limit and associated limp mode bug for MSD80 ECUs.

This release is currently in BETA format. To update to this latest release, follow these instructions:

1. Uninstall your AccessPORT. The AccessPORT must be uninstalled before this update can be completed.

2. If you have not already, download AccessPORT Manager 2.0. Windows/MAC. Watch this video for a tutorial on using AccessPORT Manager.

3. Update your AccessPORT to BETA firmware.
  • To update to the latest BETA firmware version select the “Options” menu.
  • Next, select “Check for beta firmware” and then update your AccessPORT. All maps will be automatically updated and loaded onto your AccessPORT.
4. Reinstall your AccessPORT and the update will be complete!

Again, you must first UNINSTALL your AccessPORT completely before updating. The AccessPORT will not update to this new firmware if left in an “installed” state.

Thank you all for your patience especially when waiting for ROM support. If you have any questions, issues or concerns, feel free to contact us here or via PM or call us at 1-866-922-3059.

Is dyno tuning available yet for the cobb? I'm looking to go to gmg racing and get my car properly tuned for my modifications.

Watched your videos and this is right up my alley in terms of ease of installation. Color me interested!

You said above there was no longer a distinction between automatic (steptronic) and manual maps, so I'm assuming the pdf on your site just needs to be updated?

Also, I'm not always in a position to conveniently get 91 octane fuel and I know there will be times I just get 89 - what is the impact when using your maps? The pdf is kind of vague.

Thanks.
