Newbie Tire Question

I have a 2008 Z4 Coupe. 3.0si. 15K miles. The OEM tires don't look to have a lot of life left and I know people say to replace the run flats anyway.

What's a good replacement tire? I don't plan on being on the track and I live in Dallas, so not any frequent snow or ice. I'd like to keep it under $200/ea and still have a decent tire for city driving and occasional trips to put the car through its paces. If there are any great bargains out there, that would be great. I am not picky about brands.

I searched for a thread on this topic, as I imagine there's already been one, but I couldn't find one, so if somebody could point me that way or if anyone has any recommendations, it would be appreciated.

I typically use Tirerack ratings/reviews. I just got the Continental ExtremeContact DW since they were the highest rated and I heard good things about them. They're also cheaper than the Michelin PS2s.

+1 Continental ExtremeContact DW(S) I am in Chicago and they are fantastic on the snow. If you don't need a tire that can handle snow go for the DW. Best bang for the buck tire I've owned. Full set ran me less than $600 with road hazard at a national discount tire chain. I can't recommend them enough. And that's coming from a diehard Bridgestone fan.

I just installed Hankooks on my 3.0si and I'm very pleased with them. Tramlining and steering wheel jitter are entirely eliminated and the ride is much smoother. In short, a massive improvement in the car.

But as you can see, there are other excellent tires out there. Whatever you select, its a certainty that you will not miss the run-flats!

Hancooks or the Continental DW (not the DWS). Living in Dallas, you should be fine with a summer tire all year round and either of these should fit your price range and provide excellent handling. Best of all, they are MUCH quieter than the run-flats.

I like my General UHP tires and they were only around $150 each shipped!
