I'm actually getting good MPG!!!
I've has my 2008 e92 M3 for about 4 months now and have been on this forums from the first day. I think I've read every thread....From what I can read many or most of you are getting under 15 MPG on your M3's in the city. I drive entirely city and am now getting over 19 MPG average for the tank!!! I drive spirited and floor it a few times a day. Avg speed is 27 mph. DCT trans. Mostly use D5 setting or "M" when getting on it. I know many of you thing driving in drive is not a "pure" way to drive but I'm on the phone a lot and honestly prefer it for every day use. I drive about 1500 miles a month and am totally in love with this car.
Like a few of you out there I looked at a 997 TT and a r8 and chose the M3 for its everyday drive ability and use ability (trunk/back seat). I also don't like to stress too much about door dings and I would on those other cars a bit too much. I feel lucky to read about everyone's experiences and like so many of the readers, learn so much about our cars...causing me to appreciate it more and more every day!!! John |

Please post your average speed along with the MPG. Otherwise its apples to oranges.
Glad to see you are getting 19MPG at 27 MPH Avg. I am at 15.7 at 28MPH Avg, manual transmission. But the car is still new. I also last night found and filled up with pure gasoline, without any ethanol. Will see how/if that helps.

Freeway driving I get about 19mpg+, average speed going about 80mph.
City driving I get about 17mpg+, average speed going about 25mph. I agree that this car is the most practical DD/sports car. |

I have 28,000 miles on her. Mods are the AFE intake (number 2) Pulley, and Dinan free flow exhaust. I think a reason I get better than average MPG is because I rarely manually shift and the computer goes to a higher gear than most would shit to if shifting manually.
Crazy to think some of you are getting half the MPG!!! Sorry to hear that... For what it's worth I had all the mods done at the same time and could really feel a difference on the "butt dyno". Love the sound of the AFE intake!!! Of course the Dinan mufflers are AWESOME!!! A must IMO. As for the comparison to the 335. The 335 coupe was cool but it did not have the "feel" of the M3. Specifically the M3 seats give you a much sportier feeling, the sound is far more involving and racier in tone and volume, handling is much more crisp, ride more firmer, and looks much better...and someone knowing you drive an m3 has much more cred cred than a 335... |

My MPG has been steadily climbing since the last time I cleaned my air filter. I was averaging around 15.3 with about 30% highway and 70% city driving but it has increased to 16.0. I have a little over 35k miles on the car now.

12800 miles, around 70-75mph I get between 23-25mpg. During city driving I average around 19, I noticed that once i got the X-pipe the mpgs went up one or two on the hwy. I'm happy, still sucks fuel down like no more fossil fuels will be around the next day. Of course it dips way below 19 when driving very spirited.

I have not had a full tank driving on the freeway, but I'd guess between 24-26 mpg at around 75 mph.
It's crazy to see the variation in MPG. Is it driving style or variation in the drive train/factory tune? |

Short distances sends the mileage to the toilet, even if you drive like a grandpa . And driving fast too; I only get 17+ when driving mostly at the ton. The darn engine is SCREAMING on the highway. You hardly ever use 6th on the track; no reason not to have a numerically lower ratio, for better hwy MPG. Oh well. They're going to have to do that to increase their EPA numbers.

I was getting 22 - 23 mpg until this winter. Now I barely drive it. It mostly sits at the end of the driveway in the AM, idling trying to stay warm for the kids as they wait for the bus. So, only about 16 mpg now. Damn, I can't wait for spring to get here soon enough.
But the SUV barely gets 17 mpg traveling back and forth to work on the highway. The M3 is much better (when it's stretching its legs) so I'm happy with the the mileage. Cheers.
