Mt Bike in Z4M Coupe

One of my prerequisites for buying the Z4MC was that a bike could fit inside. After seeing evidence that it was possible on a thread on pistonheads, I made the purchase... I finally made my attempt tonight, and here are the results!

Large Santa Cruz Chameleon Single Speed -- Fits!
Large Turner Burner FS Bike -- Fits!

This is a lot better than what I was planning on doing, which is spending $600+ on a custom hitch fabrication/install. I may eventually go that route, but I also do like the security of having my bike inside. I do have another car with a rack for the times I want to take more than one bike. Anyway, I'm a happy camper...just wanted to share!!!

I have a small frame roadbike (43cm men's frame). A big factor in me deciding the M coupe could be a workable daily driver was because I could fit my bike in the trunk.

Good to know - got a carbon Giant hard tail I built up full-on XTR and aftermarket stuff when I worked as a head mecahnic at a bike shop when I was in undergrad, would be great to fit it in the Z4MC.

How long does it take to disassemble/put back together? Removing the back wheel and chain looks like it would be a PITA, but I'm a relative bike n00b.

It takes less than a minute to disassemble...takes me a bit longer to get the backwheel on again for reassembly. I usually use a roof rack with a fork mount, so I'm used to taking the front wheel off, so for me taking both wheels off adds at most another minute to my prep time!

Key for this was to get the corner of the rear triangle into the corner of the hatch first...and then do the same for the fork legs into the other corner of the hatch. Then, the bars can be tucked behind the c-pillars (make sure to turn the bar away from you). After that, I slid one of my tires behind the bike and the other laid on top, although you could just as well drop both wheels behind the bike. Heavy blanket is a must to protect the back...!

I have a bike rack that works great on the Zed. Although, I had to get the special attachments for the top cause it is glass, works perfect with nearly no sway at all. Was a lot cheaper than a hitch rack as well (even without fabrication costs!)

I'll try and go look at the name tonight if anyone is interested. For the top glass, instead of hooks they make padded cylindars about 5 inches long each that you put under the hood and feed the line out the top of the hatch. This puts much less pressure on the glass and is safe to put more weight on without worrying about the glass braking, which is the bad part about our cars (no top anchor point)
