Anyone gone from M coupe to M roadster?

I know a few of you have gone from roadster to coupe, but I'm considering (not totally seriously), from going from coupe to roadster. I still love my car (2007, titanium silver, imola red, 55K miles) but sometimes I'm itching for something a bit "different."

There is a somewhat local 2008 roadster available. Space gray metallic, black leather, gray top, premium, nav and only 14,817 miles. Still under original factory warranty and CPO too. They are asking $37,991.

I don't know...

I'm a roadster owner so I'm going to tell you to do it

Honestly,
I've driven quite a few Z4M coupes, to me it just feels like a roadster with the top up,

I know there is the stiffness difference but I don't think many if anyone could tell the difference,
The Z4 Roadster is still very very stiff and handles superb,
Its actually stiffer than a e46 M3 coupe! So don't let that put you off,

Looks wise, Its subjective,
I think with the top up, the coupe looks better,
Top down, Roadster looks better, Plus you get the feel of a open top car and due to the angle of the screen and the amazing view it makes you feel like your in an open wheel race car.

When I want the feel of the coupe I put the top up,
But having the joy (and noise) with the top down the roadster wins for me,

Funny you should mention the imola red interior... I would have been more inclined if the roadster was space gray with imola red.

agree on everything...

i don't think most would notice the difference in rigidity on the street. and the coupe looks better with top up but the roadster looks awesome with top down... and the driving experience is definitely enhanced

space gray and imola red is my favorite color combo so i don't blame you. they didn't have it when i got my coupe so i settled for tiag with dream red.

I might be interested in your car if you want to do it...what would you want for it?

I'm pretty sure I've seen your car at SDSU, am I right?

Personally, I prefer the look of the coupe. (My car detailer once said it looked like a baby Aston. ) The roadster looks much better topless.

Probably not me. I did graduate from SDSU (ages ago) and I've only been back once for an event.

Maybe we should meet up and I'll tell you a million reasons why you should keep your coupe! hahaha!

IMHO, coupes are much better looking than the verts, and they're also much rarer. I have to agree with all of the above that driving with tops down is a different experience, but the coupe is still the jaw-dropping car. The z4 vert is a nice car, but you get to see it almost everywhere...

Therefore, KEEP IT!

EDIT: I forgot to add that I went for the z4mc partially because I was tired of DD'ing my M3 vert and seeing people driving the same exact car around every block I cruised by.

There were 3041 roadsters produced and 1815 coupes, there's not a huge difference in rarity really. As others have said, the vert looks way better with the top down, but the coupe does look better than the vert does with the top up.

true but i think what he's getting at is that when you factor in the 03-05 models which were only in vert form, among all z4s, 2.5, 3.0i/si, and m, the coupes appear to be more "rare". i think then the numbers are like 1 out of every 10 z4's bet 03-08 was a coupe.

i think the price is steep even for a low mileage, cpo-ed roadster. also, i think cmark8's point was tt the e86 coupe style is a lot more rare than the e85 roadster style, all models of z4's inclusive.

all things equal, and considering u will take a hit on depreciation by trading for an m roadster (and lose the gorgeous imola red interior), i say keep the coupe!

I can relate. I bought the coupe because I love the looks and I wanted to avoid the long-term hassles of convertible ownership like top replacements and failed motors.

Two years later, I bought the Solstice GXP. In my defense, replacing the top on the Solstice would be a lot cheaper, and it's a manual top so there's no extra hardware to worry about. I'd sell both for an M Roadster with manual top and hardtop for winters.

Good point there. I consider the Ms pretty rare as a whole (roadster and coupe included) as there were only 4856 Ms produced in total in 3 production years time.

All BMW Z's with automatic tops can be made manual, by simply disabling the hydraulic cylinder in the trunk. The Z4's automatic locking mechanism would mean you'd have to keep a tool in the passenger compartment to lock the levers.

I do love having a hardtop for the winter.

Living where you live and not owning a roadster seems like torture!!! You have more warm weather than I do and I still couldn't see myself without being able to drop the top on the nice days!

DO IT!!!!!!!! (but not for that price, way too much IMO!)

I love my coupe but there are days I definently miss the roadster. It was nice having the option. To be honest I got as many or more looks from awed bystanders in the roady too(top up or down).

Too high IMHO. If you do buy, Id powdercoat those wheels black. That would be bad ass.

Same car, really---practically no performance difference. It just depends on whether you want a droptop in the nice weather. For me, the coupe's lines sealed the deal.

Z4 roadster vs coupe is such a difficult decision. They're very similar in many ways, both performance and looks-wise

It's quite different for the Z3, where the coupe's lines are more than a little hard to swallow for all but a cult following (but a very fanatic cult).

Anyway, for me I wanted to be able to drop the top, so my choice was clear.
