Curb Monitor w/ Manual Seats

I have a 2011.5 E92 with the manual seats (no premium package).

Does anyone know if the passenger side mirror can be programmed to tilt down when the car is in reverse?

I live in the city and always park alongside curbs and I really loved the feature in my previous two E46's and I can not believe I don't have that in a brand new $70k car. Will be really disappointed if this can't be programmed because I didn't get the power/memory seats.

Thank you in advance.

OP, do you know for sure that 2011.5's without premium package don't have the tilt down mirror as a standard feature?

I can confirm that the 2011.5 non ZP2 indeed does not have the tilt down mirror feature

Mine definitely does not tilt down. It doesn't matter which position the mirror selector switch is in. Wondering if it can be programmed at the dealer.

EDIT: The owners manual has an asterisk (*) next to curb monitor. Therefore meaning that it may not be available on all variants of the M3. I am assuming curb monitor is not available without ZPP2. Also just learned that auto dimming exterior rear view mirrors are also not available on all variants of the M3. I knew something was different when my exterior mirrors didn't have a slightly blue tint to them. So cheap on BMW's part. My 2000 323i had auto dimming rear view mirrors back in 2001!

i bet it can't be programmed because it's probably lacking the motor to actually move the mirror.

Don't the non-ZPP cars still have power mirrors? You don't need a different motor for this purpose

I guess you could be correct if it used a different motor to tilt the mirror down. However, since the mirrors are already power and tilt down via a switch, I don't think it would be cost effective to have an extra motor just to tilt the mirror down when the car is in reverse. I'm no engineer but I think it would use the same motor to perform a function that it already does.

I'm not sure if they all got that feature. For me I have to have the sideview mirror selector switch set to drivers side and the tilt feature works.

You could always get curb feelers

Yeah I guess the feature doesn't work without the memory/power seats module. Looks like I'll be tilting my own mirror down every time I park, what a pain in the @ss for such a simple thing!

Wow, interesting. I didn't realize they removed that feature in 2011.5. In the recent past, that has been standard equipment on all BMWs as far as I know. More decontenting. And needless decontenting too, since this could not have cost much at all. All the needed functionality is there already.

Yeah, that's weird. I thought it was standard in all of them.

I have a pretty much base model 2008 M3. The only thing it has is EDC and base leather, nothing else. But I do have the auto down-tiling passenger mirror.

2008 - 2011.5 had power/memory seats as standard equipment.

2011.5+ manual seats became standard and in order to get power seats you have to get the premium package 2 (ZPP2). So any car after 2011.5 that doesn't have ZPP2, doesn't have tilt down rear view mirrors. Which sucks, dealer never informed me that manual seats became standard when I ordered my car.

This should be able to be programmed. I'm not sure if dealer would do it, because it sounds more like a little hack. The function is definetly there. That being said, you can program the power seats and mirror settings into keys... so maybe there is another unit responsible of this? So if you don't get power seats, you don't get that unit...?

That is exactly what I am thinking... I read somewhere that there is a module for the memory seats, that same module is responsible for the tilting of the mirror. I don't know for sure though, I will try to find out at the dealer next time I'm there.

Take a look at this post: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=472123

I think there's a module that probably stores all the memory settings or something. I'm pretty sure the functionality of the tilting should still be there. Maybe email/PM the guy in the post above and see if there's something he knows.

Although then again, having the funtion there but "turned off" doesn't seem very practical to me. If it's there, it doesn't cost BMW any more to have it "on."

^ I saw that last night and was curious if that's an option if the dealer can't do it. Thank you for posting the thread. I sent Mike and email and will report back with any news.

Thx again shamoo.

One thing you might want to check on is if any 3 series cars with manual seats have the auto tilt mirror. Not sure if manual seats are still available in the US on the 3 series, but they are available in other countries for sure. This will tell if manual seats and auto tilt mirror are mutually exclusive.

Just looked into this and it seems that other BMW vehicles with manual seats do have the curb monitor that works! It could be totally different with E9x BMW's but I doubt it.

Found online that a E82 135i owner has no power/memory seats but his mirror tilts down when the vehicle is in reverse. No premium package.

I just called a friend of mine who has an E46 325i, no power/memory seats and his mirror also tilts down. No premium package as well.

I believe this is programmable by the dealer or there is some way to make it work. From what I've read, the dealer has to go into Car/Key Memory Settings and ACTIVATE 'Automatic Kerb Monitor'. They should be able to access this menu regardless if you have power/memory seats because we all have Key Memory for radio settings, AC settings, etc.

I'll make a trip to the dealer in the next few days. I have hope now.

Hey good news. Please do let us know. I was so happy I'd have this feature. I didn't have it on my Z4 MC, and that car is not easy to paralel park
