Any words on MY12 yet?
I'm looking to lease an E92 M3 soon and wondering if there are words on any MY12 changes/upgrades compared to MY11. Heard something about Alcantara interior and slight power bump...
It probably sounds stupid since cars always get updates, etc.. but this is going to be my first M car so I'm being a little anal lol |

There is a thread on this very forum asking the exact same question probably 6 posts ago, still first page.

Nothing will change for MY12, for the 100th time...
They just did an LCI for MY11... Lease your car when the #s make sense, nothing else is coming, no power upgrade, no interior, nada.

Do you even pay attention to what BMW execs/M execs have been saying? Next M3 will NOT have a V8.

The problem is that BMW often makes major changes mid-model-year. See the September 2011 ("2011.5") changes for an example of this. So, even if we get word on the timing of MY2012, and confirm nothing changes at that time, it doesn't mean there won't be something coming six months later.
Personally I think there is a pretty decent chance we'll see some special limited run model with exclusive interior and/or exterior introduced at some point, but probably not until sometime next year. Quote:

Nobody, and I repeat, nobody knows what kind of engine will be in the next-gen M3. It's ALL speculation gents... One group says NA V8, other group says TT V8, other group says TT I6, other group says TTV6 and on and on and on...

Though seeing as how every other new M car is getting a "normal" BMW twin turbo engine, it seems highly likely that the next M3 will be similar in that regard.

I personally think the next-gen M3 will have a toned down version of the motor in the F10 M5, which will probably a TT V8.

No, they haven't confirmed anything. Pure nonsense.

No, they haven't. Unless it's an official BMW press-release it's BULLSHIT.
Don't let the forums or someone on the forums claiming to be a "BMW Employee" or "Insider" confuse you. Trust me, nobody knows what kind of engine will be on a 2014 MY production vehicle.

^ Most of the media is guessing it will be TT 6 as well. I can post tons of articles to back this up. Have you seen anywhere recently where they guess that the next M3 will be a V8tt?
None say it will be a V8tt. If history repeats itself then media/forums typically come close to predicting the real outcome. You right though, nothing official.

M5 will be a TT V8, right?.. Since when M5 and M3 share same amount of cylinders?

I'm just saying, nothing official so it's all absolute speculation.
Nobody knows anything.

Forums like this are filled with speculative threads of all types. It's part of what makes participating here fun and exciting. A big part of the entertainment factor for me is trying to piece together the story as tidbits of information leak out - sometimes from known reliable sources, and sometimes from new or unknown sources which must be gauged for authenticity. It is challenging. In the end, of course, everyone is going to form their own opinions. That said, in my years on the internet, I can't recall a situation where we had this much evidence pointing toward one particular outcome, only to have it end up going some other direction. I am not saying it can't happen, no. It's just that to me, holding out hope for anything other than a turbo charged 6 cylinder is only setting one's self up for disappointment. Again, that's just my opinion. I really wish that there was a turbo V8 coming, even if it only displaced 3L, or even less. But I just don't see it happening. |
