Battery covered by warranty?

My car gives me lots of low battery power warnings and the clock keeps giving out. I did report this at the last service (while it was still in warranty - now got extended warranty). The dealer just charged it up.
So now I tell them that it's still playing up. Their response? They want to keep the car for 3 days to establish whether it's wear and tear or manufacturing defect.
Yeah right, I'd love them to keep my car for 3 days!
Shall I just pay up for a new battery or fight a it harder?

Chances are if the car is 3-4 years old the most you could get is a prorated portion. I got a full replacement at about 2 yrs/20k miles, though. Should last around 5 years.
