v1 vertical mount ?
Anyone try mounting the v1 vertically?
I have a v1 (non pop) for close to 10 years and has been great and never bothered to get it updated. But recently i purchased another v1 w/ pop(latest software etc..) and the thing is so f'ning sensitive to false its almost unusable in city and urban areas. I recently ran into this and wondered if anyone has tried. http://cgi.ebay.com/Vertical-bracket...item2a0c86d1ad http://www.guysoflidar.com/radar-det...fic-tests.html two arguments i've seen This bracket was developed for the Valentine One radar detector for mounting it vertically. The main point of the vertical mount is to be able to sense / detect those radar units more effectively what work with band X, K, Ka, Ku and operate on low transmitting performance. "These radar units are usually polarized vertically, and as such, the detector should also be located vertically." "Most if not all radar detectors have horizontally polarized antennas. I can’t see how this will help whatsoever. In fact it will probably significantly hurt radar reception. Do you have a video demonstrating this mounting works as is said?"

got an email back from v1
Thanks for your email. No, this is a bad idea. Mounting the V1 vertically will have a huge impact on it's performance--don't do it! Cordially, PK Sales Department

Well, it looks like Valentine 1 beat me to it but yeah, don't mount it vertical. I've seen it lose off-axis sensitivity this way. Maybe you'll gain sensitivity in the vertical range, for example for the cops that like to sit on overpasses, but I think sideways sensitivity is more important.
As for falsing there are several things you can do. Turn off X-band for instance. Use little "l" or big "L" mode in town. Adjust the K-band initial mute time. And so on. See the re-programming article on Valentine-1's website. The radardector dot net forums are another good place to learn about this. BTW, you mention Ku band. Make sure it is off. Ku band is only used in Europe, not the US. Also, be aware that the V1 is not immune to the Spectre radar detector detector that the VA uses -- it can be picked up! The Bel STi driver, Escort Redline and Escort 9500ci are the only ones that cannot be picked up by the Spectre. Cheers.

I have an Escort, and can cancel out the known signs/doors/etc via gps. But if I did not have that feature, re the bands:
Ka - State troopers and misc police depts. K - Less common, but used by a lot of county sheriffs and police depts X - Doorway radar, I would just ignore this Ku - Very rare, I get it every here and there in Colorado, but does not seem to be related to law enforcement |

I know. But I didn't want you to fall into a lull believing the autolearn is the be-all end-all to false alert elimination, because it isn't. If I can save even one person from unjust revenue generation then I have succeeded.
Cheers.

I have no idea if Ku band is used by law/speed enforcement, but it's used in satellite communications.
BTW, lulz re: that ghetto masking tape job: http://www.guysoflidar.com/radar-det...fic-tests.html
