Xmas Gifting -- New Trunk Or Exhaust?
Which would you pick and why?
Leaning towards the Challenge CF trunk (Alpine white car). Also leaning towards the Akrapovik Slip-On (potentially the full, but I am VERY wary of CEL/warranty issues -- not sure how much extra the CEL delete is and if it's reliable) If I go with the Exhaust, I am looking to spend about $3,500 more, which is pretty significant as I'm paying for grad school right now... Doesn't seem feasible (or necessary), but being on these damn forums doesn't help!!! Anyone been in a similar situation (or dilemma) before? What did you decide? I really want to complete the rear look with a diffuser/trunk, but I know that neither will look the same without an exhaust. In addition, I have not HEARD the akra in person, so I am hesitant to drop $6k on something I have not even heard. Let me know if anyone has any opinions. I wanted to keep this out of the 'Exterior Mod' and 'Exhaust' sections because they will obviously be more biased than posting here. Mods feel free to move if need be.

tough choice, sounds in your post that you really dont want to spend a lot of money so you might want to stick with the trunk, however the guys with aftermarket exhaust will tell you its a pretty sick mod, give you a whole new feel of the car. GL

Exhaust is a mod that you are always aware of every time you drive the car. A trunk looks really cool, but you won't notice it when you're driving. Either one is a great mod; it comes down to whether you want to sound great or look great.

You will get more utility from the exhaust in my opinion if you're willing to spend. When you're in the car you won't see the trunk but you will hear your exhaust when you're at WOT ! (and as an added bonus you shed some weight and gain some be it small hp/torque)

Get a exhaust buy for the love of god dont spend over 4K
Get a good muffler (not titanium) and a cheap mid pipe as it does nothing for sound that the more expensive brands dont do and a cel delete for $300

Seriously looking at the akra now that I've gotten more info about the CEL, thanks Jason. I really do love the challenge trunk though, it's a tough call no doubt -- I don't garage the car (yet) either, so I am hesitant to put on an exhaust now and have the road salt destroy it!

I would go with the exhaust first.
A friend has the Akra (EVO) and he says at times its too loud but he loves the sound. I have heard it in person and it does sound good. I personally will be going with the Akra slip on. |

I would say exhaust but if you are borrowing money for grad school don't do anything and do the right thing and use the extra cash so you don't have to spend the next 10 years after college paying your school debts.
Don't get into more debt. You have a sexy car now so the exhaust or trunk would be nice but not necessary...

Exhaust for sure. Look in the used section if you're on a tighter budget.

I do not get the trunk at all. So for me, this is easy. Akra. Start with a slip on.
