snow plowing zcp

The Windy City is getting hit with some massive lake effect snow 8'' +, I barley made it home. I'm running Dunlop Winter Sports on ZCP wheels, express way was somehow drivable, but side street...it felt like snow plowing, what's your experience with heavy snow?

Winter beater! lol. Though they can be fun in the snow, at that depth, it just piles up under the front end and slows you down.

wow, someone's salty I drove these past days in the snow and though the car did extremely well, and think that it's great training for the track. Really have to pay attention to throttle and steering inputs and you've got a fun winter ride. The only issue is clearance, and i've got the X5 for that, other than that will be taking many opportunities to drive in the snow, anything can be made a positive or negative, it's just state of mind

If you have an X5 why the hell bother with snows on the M3?

I bought an AWD SUV to avoid the hassle of changing tires and I love the idea of keeping all the crap they spray on the roads off my M3 too.

Good luck, don't think we'll get too much here. If you're on summer tires with any accumulation you're be screwed, but with those snow tires I'd say getting home will be "no problem."

Between my garage and driveway, the whole family fleet of 5 vehicles is currently in residence. 4 of the 5 have snow tires on them. The M3's staying in the garage for the next few days (or weeks or months).

It has snowed quite a bit here in Germany, and I got caught in a pretty bad storm last saturday. The Autobahn was completely convered with snow. I have Pirelli Sotozero's on 18's...staggered, and I had no problems at all. I just had to watch out for larger snow drifts. The DCT is great in manual mode when I downshift going down hills...nice and smooth.

I also found a nice large parking lot, turned off all the electronic nannies, and had some fun for about 30 minutes...almost made myself sick.

Me too! There's ~1 inch right now. My friend who dropped me off last night has a Infiniti G35X and he just slid into his dad's car. I'm about to go rescue him and pop out his bumper for him.

M3 + snow tires to the rescue!

Don't feel bad. My fwd Ford Mondeo also struggles with heavy snow and brand new Pirelli Winter Sottozero, but I reckon that the extra clearance and taller/narrower 205/55 tires are a clear advantage vs. any M3 with OEM ZCP winter tires. I'm glad I bought this beater, just compare the height and clearance against the M-zcp.

My TT with Quattro and snow tires is just about unstoppable in the snow...I even pulled someone out of a drift yesterday with it.

After winters in Germany and upstate New York years ago, daily driving in the snow mixed with salt, sand and stones will destroy both the hood and the front bumper finishes in no time. You will notice the damage by March...

I will let BMW worry about this one when I return my lease in 2 years.

I drove my E46 M through 6 hard Canadian winters and after a good wash & wax the paint job looks virtually new. I plan to drive my E92 the same way. I don't get some people... these cars ain't exotics. Drive it!

Easy on that eggnog now. It's just a car; someone's beater is a daily driver to others.
