Macht Schnell Drop in filter

Hey boys,

I got this installed yesterday and i have confused thoughts about it. I cant even hear it, might be because of my gintani exhaust though.

However i feel like throttle response is sometimes better and sometimes worse, but it might be playing games with me.

Owners, whats your thoughts?

I put mine in about a week ago. I cant really notice a difference it feels all the same to me but you cant expect anything from just a filter. Most likely just your mind playing games with you.

Dynos don't lie. There are gains, although minimal.

were dyno's ever posted? Were they done back-to-back under the same conditions? I wouldn't expect anything from a drop-in filter...

I doubt that drop-ins make much of a difference at all now that the new M's come with the Euro filter (no restrictive charcoal media).

There are minimal gains (I did see dyno charts in the past). I also have the same filter. There was a VERY SLIGHTY sound change, although most probably wouldn't even notice it. The engine noise easily overpowers it, and if you have an exhaust/xpipe, forget it.

It's probably not worth it at all, but hey, I had some money to burn so I got it.

I don't feel any power change, but i can definitely hear the growl of the engine/intake more. Especially on 4th and 5th gear, it sounds amazing.

Logically... more air flow equals more debris into the motor. It may be minimal but so are the power gains. The same thing can be said about under drive pulleys. Is the money and the apparent risk as slight as it can be, worth all the extra money for street use or even an occasional track day?

I agree, not sure you would see any gain now. Before the euro filter change, yes.

These cars are hobbies for a lot of us and tweaking it is half the fun, so I understand the need to do it and I get sucked in just like everyone else.

But....you really believe that 5hp on top of 420hp makes a difference?.... so basically the M division guys are idiots for not doing that in the first place.

My concerns are more flow equals less filtration, or has that been proven false?

It's the same way about how I feel about my Rpi scoops. Is their minimal HP gain after I installed it? I don't feel it. When you look through my matte front grill and see my red Rpi scoops and cteate a beautiful and stunning contrast. Do I get excited? Absolutely! Do I care? Not really. Had it been an ESS Supercharger for $14,OOO or anything similar. You bet your ass I'll get my lawyers involved.lol. Again, you paid very litlle for the damn thing and expect the earth to move. I'm guilty in many but you are much worse than I am.lol

Best,
Roy

I had a very distinct sound change in 2nd and 3rd gear between 3k and 5K RPM (above 5k, the engine drowns it out). I love it! Turn your radio off and enjoy true audible entertainment, the S65.

I dont think it does much at stock power levels but when the engine needs more air with a tune and catless exhaust then maybe you will see gains

Some gains have been proven with the dyno. My concern is that I may be doing more harm than good in the long run. I am not trying to put down the product, I would like to try it but I would like proof that it filters as good as the stock filter.

There is a 8 layer gauze construction on the filters. If properly cleaned/oiled during regular intervals - the MS filter will perform perfectly fine in filtering.

+1 . I have used 8 layer cotton gauze filters on all of my dune bikes over the last 6 years, and everything looks great when I do my tear-downs.

Also let me know if you still want the technocraft intake.

I hear a slight different with the drop in. You hear almost a ticking noise now during hard acceleration... Sounds very good IMO

You are exactly right...... You can't let in more air without letting in more dirt.

Any gains from drop in filters were before MY 2010 when the North American cars started getting the euro filter. With the euro filter there is essentially no gain to be had from drop in filters. The North American filter on the 08/09 MY cars had a Charcoal layer integrated into the filter and this is why you used to get gains from drop in filters but not anymore.
