Gintani Stage-2+ showing completely disabled check engine light
EDIT: Problem Solved. http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=465301
Mods, please close this thread. I don't wanna start shit, I don't own an M3 let alone a supercharger kit. I've had mad respect for the guys at Gintani, great guys and great cars. However, what explains this? Please tell me it was just a mistake of some sort. PS: I know the CEL doesn't go off for a light error however doesn't it flash on startup? It does on my 335i.

All - every OEtuned car has their SES ( service engine soon ) disabled and since OEtuning tunes Gintani cars I'm not surprised to see that " forum member ryboy's" newly supercharged M has it's SES light disabled .....
Hope nothing bad happened to his car as we we're awaiting some 60-130 #'s from him .. |

It's funny and sad at the same time when the guy say's no check engine light that's cause your SES light has been disabled bruh ... Chances are you will never see a check engine light but what do I know I'm no tech..

I verified that the SES off is for the cat delete only. Everything else will still set it off. Not that I'm hoping it ever goes off
I've not had much time to drive around since the holiday season started, it's my busiest time of the year and it hardly has seen daylight in the last few weeks I've been in the excursion. I took the M to my parents house last night with the 4 kids in it. It was 42 degrees and it felt much more frisky than at normal FL temps. The speedo video I posted a couple weeks ago was at like 77-78 degrees or so? But that was with a bunch of weight in the car too.

Yea, that's me just being ignorant. I was advised, before installation, that all the engine safety features would remain in tact. After all this hub bub I got nervous and verified again with Gintani after I posted that video. So ok, ok I take my knocks as the village idiot! Ease off now!

Ryboy do yourself a favor and chit chat with a tech at your local service dept and get there opinion on your SES light !
I have cat delete also and my SES is not disabled... I spoke to a tech and was told Disabling the SES disables your CEL !!! Not stirring shit just looking out for you , I would want the same if I was on the other side of the fence .. ::cheers::: Better yet ask them when you get cat delete with their Dinan software does it disable the SES light .. Then ask them what results will you encounter if a SES was disabled ... Last edited by m33; 12-12-2010 at 09:48 PM.. |

I've spoken with one BMW tech, after this and he verified it is possible. But when I have some time I'm going to call another one that isn't "mod friendly" and see what they say too for shnitz and giggles.

there is got to be a safe easy way to make the car throw a code. Is there a connector we can simply disconnect? Coil and make it run on 7 cylinders? Not sure if that is safe though...

I was thinking the same thing. I'll try to find something but, it's not going to be until after the new year. I have one more week of heavy sales and installations then we are off to go snowboarding in CO for a week then Christmas with the family. This is the last thing I'll be thinking about until after new years. lol

Disconnecting a sensor is a good idea also ! Which one though ??? The AIT air intake sensor would be an easy one since it's right there and it's an important one also... |

Haha Thanks, To be honest, I had a life altering event a while back when we were a young family; we got car jacked I got shot 12 times, died 3 times that night, and my daughter at the time 3yo was taken in the truck. She was recovered quickly by the police, the guy went to jail for the rest of his life. And I had a LONG recovery from paralysis and a bunch of other injuries. SO! I'm a true believer in "you just gotta have fun" and "can't everyone just be happy for each other". In the end a car is just a car is just a car, my M is no different I can't take it with me when I go. Also, if I make a dumbass out of myself then I'll be happy that I made someone smile for a moment and I'll own up to it. I don't hate on other people's stuff....anymore. I used to when I was younger and before that happened to me. It just opened my eyes and I realized everyone on these types of boards is just proud of what they have put together and what they have. One would really have to step on my toes to make me upset anymore. I don't believe in making other people feel bad, it just makes me feel bad. So I'd rather be on the other end and if everyone else would feel the same I think the world would be a better place. Vote for Ryboy98 for President in 2012! I approve this message! haha Thanks bro, wait until the "M" video I am making comes out. He's the star! :P He loves his BMWs!

Great response Ry, some people on here just don't get it. Its like they rather be on here bashing Gintani rather than just being happy for others and enjoying their personal car...Just FYI my car had idle air valve go bad twice and a bad coil. Every time my car set a check engine light. So u have nothing to worry about, I basically had a replica set up and SW as ur car does now except I am 4 door. Those on the boards that know me personally know my status in BMW God bless u and ur fam, i had no idea.

I'm not bashing , I'm simply stating facts ...
It kills me how some of you over look the facts.. Two buddies of mine both had Jeremy/OE tune their cars. *Both had their SES lights disabled exactly as you see in the video. *The first guy was told the same exact thing about cat delete. *But when he took his car for state inspection it failed. *So he took the car to the dealer, and the dealer told him that his SES was completely disabled by the tuner. *They turned it back on and the SES light lit like a Christmas tree. *He had a bunch of error codes stored in his ECU -- all of which would have generated an SES but didn't because it was disabled. The second guy had his SES light disabled also. *But he had a Bavarian Technic tool and was able to read the codes himself. *This is what he found. Code:
2737: Filling plausibility diagnosis cold start strategy Bank 1 Error will cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed Short circuit or signal interruption 2738: Filling plausibility diagnosis cold start strategy Bank 2 Error will cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed Short circuit or signal interruption 2B0D: Idle state monitoring Bank 1 Error will cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed Signal or value below threshold 2B57: Motor emergency programm activated Error will not cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed Timeout 2789: Catalytic converter conversion bank 1 Error will cause a warning light Error is currently present Test conditions have been completed Short circuit or signal interruption 278A: Catalytic converter conversion bank 2 Error will cause a warning light Error is currently present Test conditions have been completed Short circuit or signal interruption 275D: Lambda control stop error bank 1 Error will cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed Short circuit or signal interruption 275E: Lambda control stop error bank 2 Error will cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed Short circuit or signal interruption 27BA: Fuel system lambda / filling plausibility - Bank 1 Error will cause a warning light Error is not currently present Test conditions have been completed Signal or value below threshold |

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but whoever told you that your SES light was still running was probably wrong. *Your tuner are the last people I'd trust to tell you the truth about it -- especially if they're the one's doing it to everybody's car. *If you have access to a Bavarian Technic tool, you should can your car right now, or take your car to a BMW dealership and have them scan it.
Personally I find it F'd up how you sit here and tell everyone otherwise ..... Especially when they place their trust in the tuner ! But hey to each their own..... |
