There's something wrong with my turbos.
I noticed today when driving with windows down that there is this whining noise coming from my car when I accelerate through 1st and 2nd gear. Beyond that the wind noise is too much to hear it. The noise is VERY noticeable in enclosed places like carparks.
I know for certain that this noise was not present before. It's sort of a high pitched whine when the turbos start to spool up. There's no loss in performance, but I'm too afraid to got WOT now. Time for dealership visit? PS. I did a forum search for the topic and most replies seem to be that 'it's just turbo spool'. I know for sure that it isn't - I've had DCIs in my car for over 9 months and the turbos make a loud 'wooshing' sound but never anything close to this whine I'm getting. Sorta even sounds like a supercharger.

some whine yes, its a natural sound the turbos make when spooling up. Too much sound when it gets harsh is a sound of the CHRA about to go from over wear/overheat and soon.

The sound is not excessive, but it doesn't sound healthy to me. My mates on the Australian forums seem to think it's normal because a lot of them said they've had the sound for a while now with no ill effects.

Best safe thing is to have BMW run a diagnostic and check the oil for wear particulates.

Not trying to steal you thread, but nobody commented on my thread. I've had a dci and jb3 on the car for some time now. As of recent, my turbos don't spool as loud anymore. The car still feels just as fast just not as much spool. Any ideas? Thanks
