indeed, it has a nice bulge in the hood, but quite far back. Who knows, maybe they will put is on the 1M. A stick on ducktail I am not so found of. If, then it should be a one piece trunk lid.

Yes, the car has these things. I saw it in Geneva at the Auto Show last spring. It is pretty cool, though performance wise, BMW seems to put it in competition with the 120d. For the US market, it may be too expensive a car for what it is. The range is less than 100 miles, which, if you live five or ten miles from work in California and are stuck in lots of traffic, may not be a bad thing. Cost to fill up should be around $4. The big questionnis the price, as no one at BMW could hazzard a guess when I asked. To put it in perspective, a custom made Fiat 500 with electric drive is EU60,000. I wonder how the handling will be? If the car costs only $5000 - $8000 more than a 128i, it might sell here. But much more than that and folks will be looking at the 135i and 335d/i.
FYI, the lower part of the rear valence is all smooth, no interchangeable diffuser if I remember correctly. I suppose folks could always change out the bumpers to the BMW Performance ones, but then you'd have a hole! It would probably be easynfor a company like Icarbon to make a diffuser for the M bumper though. I am glad BMW is persuing electric cars again (remember the E1?). I think they could be great teansportation for folks in the right circumstances. (electrified garage, short drives and commutes, no long distance driving requirements). We'll just have to wait and see what happens next! |

They wouldn't put something if it is not needed. The X6 Active Hybrid had such a bulge but if you open the hood you will see that it houses the electrical computer stuff. I suppose the 1-series ActiveE has the same. Since the 1M does not need a bulge, it won't have it...

BMW has done it before, just look at the passenger side hood vent on the E9x M3 and see where that goes... Absolutely no function other than cosmetic.
