my lease turn in inspector is a freakin' moron but i'm not complaining

turned in my 128 w/sp last week. rears had 3mm(the min. required at turn-in) at their lowest(toward the center of the treads) but the outer grooves that you could see at a glance were much deeper (they're supposed to go by the lowest tread other than the wear bar). he glanced at my tires and said:" wow, I don't even have to measure those!!) of course i just stood there like a statue having measured them 5 minutes earlier.

well, the only thing that I can state with certainty is that it was more purposeful than your response.

Not sure if I could blame the lease inspector in my case but when I turned in my Altima SE-R I had 2 bald front tires (it came with Potenza S0-3s). I had already bought a full replacement set on clearance for about $500. He says to me "well the fronts have to be replaced..." and I told him I already bought them and could put them on before turning it in. He said "Sorry pal, it's gonna cost you $150. We charge $75 each." I laughed on the inside and resold my new tires on a forum for more than I bought them for.

Call it customer service. If you get hasled at lease turn in are you really going to want to sign another lease?

i know what you mean but honestly i don't think that he was doing me a favor; i think that he just got fooled by the outer tread being so deep- it was at about 6mm.

It seems you have the meter, so you should have showed him.

I believe you can still contact BMWUSA and ask them what to do.
They are pretty good at working with lease customers.

Also, if a person came to your house, then it wasn't a BMW employee.
These guys are contracted by multiple manufacturers to do a lease turn-in inspection. You might still be able to go to a BMW dealer and have the tires reinspected.
rpm, wadr, i think that you misunderstood; he thought that they were good when they weren't and so i didn't get charged; that's why i just said nothing; btw, it was at the dealer done by the finance manager.
