m division needs lessons from porsche.
saw the new porsche boxster spyder and fell in .
this is an awesome track or backroad weekend car, that the m division needs to take lessons from, with only 2800 pounds and and 320hp, its a dream track setup. def makes it harder for me now to pick between the m and this . the only drawback that is a 2 seater, but i think i can get used to it. any one have one that can share their experience with this car. i already have a dd, just need a fun weekend/track car.

Different target audience. If you want a toy, get a Boxster... proly way more fun to toss around than an M3 (see R&T last month). If you need something a little more practical, get an M3.
One note - And this is personal, but if I was gonna get a 2 seat Porsche, I'd go Cayman S. I think the Boxster is just a little too feminine for me.

i understand two diff cars, but isnt this what kinda used to be the m3? maybe they can step back a notch, and take away some luxurys for performance, after all thats what m used to be stood for
i love the m3 , but never owned a prosche so i thought id ask the porsche owners that bought m3s instead. why they did it , etc.

The boxster spyder is an awesome vehicle, that's for sure. Just remember that you can't put anything valuable in the car, as the manual soft top doesn't really offer any security

It doesnt exactly look like a good daily driver, wonder how this top would hold up in freezing rain or snow.
Oh dont get me wrong, i love this thing. I also amazed they were able to make it lightweight while keeping all the heavy safety features. Plus the pricing isnt all that bad either! WIN!

Isn't the Boxster range and its derivatives mostly owned by mid life crisis women and men? I would have thought the more natural competitor for the M3 would be the 997 C2s gen2 and even then the M3 offers the better overall package for anything other than as a weekend and track car. It would take a 997 turbo to lure me away from my M3 and back to another 911.

I've had a 986 boxster, 987 cayman s, 997 cab S and while I miss all of them equally, the one that stood out the most is my boxster. The Boxster Spyder is an awesome car and I would have loved to have traded my 997 for one.

Has anyone else noticed that the P cars are getting lighter, more powerful but still maintaining decent gas mileage. Im not a Pcar fan but their engineers are pulling off some serious miracles. Hopefully, as BMW gets more into carbon fiber, we will see improved numbers as well. Unfortunately, CF =$$$$$$$$.

Two completely different cars which really can't be compared fairly! I had the pleasure of checking out and getting a ride in a boxster spyder by a guy I met on a recent vacation. He's a track junkie who knows how to push a car to it's limits... A ride on some local back roads had me entirely impressed with that car to say the least. A limited production run makes it even more appealing in my opinion.

I love the Boxster Spyder for the innovation it will hopefully drive. Porsche has achieved some amazing weight savings in the Spyder as well as the new Cayenne. I hope that car companies will look more seriously to weight savings as a driver of performance.
I couldn't ever own a Boxster though from a practicality standpoint. Even my 997 was too cramped for space. |
