When's OK to start tracking the car?

Just wondering how many miles you guys had on your M3's before you guys started tracking.

I waited until 3100 miles, when the diff was supposed to be fully broken in.

Once you get the 1st service done. You really only need 2-300 kms for the breakin of the gearbox & diff.

I got impatient and called my SA around 1000 miles to schedule my break-in service. Hit the track the next day.

Right after 3000 miles. I'd recommend making sure you're getting new diff fluid from your service provider though. Depending on when you got your car, it will need it.

It's probably fine to start anytime after the break in period, but I would encourage waiting at least that long. In the ulikely event that anything should happen on track, the dealer will work with you. Since the car just doesn't make much power without high rpms, probably better to be conservative. Plus, the transmission and differential gears need some initial run-in miles, maybe more so than the motor. I took a ZO6 to track virtually off the showroom floor, but it was fun at most any rpm level, and there was no recommended break-in service visit.

300 miles with my R32. Never burned any oil for the next 3 years I had it. I will have my M3 at The Ring with 200 miles. I have not decided if I will drive it. if I do, it will not be very fast.
