I have no idea if it will fit, but why would want to replace even if it did fit?

Cheers.

I'm not sure which MY the filters are compatible with. Just spoke with K&N. They seem to have 1 part number for 2008-2011 M3s. I ordered one anyways. Will let you guys know if this fits on my MY11 M3.

I could be wrong so check this out thoroughly anyway: there is a US and Euro filter before MY 2010. After 2010 (or thereabouts?) I believe are now all Euro.

Cheers.

I dont care for the chrome end on the Dinan filter. Probably attracts and holds alot of heat. I hope KN makes a complete kit. Imangine dual air boxs or making the passenger side hood vent functional and maybe even changing the plenum along with the chargepipe. I have the Dinan set-up and i am always looking for an upgrade.

Just got the filter today. Installed it in 15 minutes. The fit and quality of the piece is pretty good. The fitment is pretty snug on my MY11 M3. I guess the part E-2994 is the Euro filter replacement. Not sure if they have a US Spec filter.

The sound is almost the same as the stock euro filter, but a tad louder at the upper RPM range. My butt dyno is registering minimal gains, but honestly, I doubt anyone could really feel a 5-15whp increase.

Overall, I like it. $75 shipped for a high flow filter from a reputable company.

Here are some pics:

You sure? I didn't read that the OP did or didn't hear it.

OP, do you hear a resonance between 3000-4000 rpm with the new filter? If not, that's awesome, I may have to buy one.

I don't THINK there are any rattles; at least none that I've heard so far.

I will check for any resonance on my drive home from work later.

Why would one do this? Is the OEM filter that restrictive? Is there any proof that shows new/clean OEM filter outperformed by an aftermarket air filter?

Only if something goes wrong....although I believe K&N's selling point is that they come with a non-warranty-void guarantee on all filters. This needs confirmation. But seriously, an air filter is fine. And it's super easy to replace/remove anyways.

Edited: PG-13'd my comment.

Don't like searching do you? I'm sorry to be rude, but there's a reason that I made a comical rendition of these situations in the exhaust section.

Yes, the stock air filter is restrictive, explained multiple times ad nauseum in multiple threads. Yes there is proof in the form of dyno graphs, both manufacturer dyno graphs AND independent dyno graphs. Either Google, use the forum's search function, or check PencilGeek's ~*DYNO DATABASE*~

Been reading for hours, mostly about exhausts. Just come over from pencil geeks blog that I pretty much finished. I am 99% sure there is no dyno in the DB for just an air filter, most people tend to do a bunch of other mods and most people forget to take a baseline reading - which IMHO makes the entire dyno thing pointless. But hey, you have 1,400+ posts. Please prove me wrong, show off you mad searching skills and show me a dyno that I am asking for. Independent pre and post air filter or intake upgrade.

TIA

I honestly can't be bothered to go hunting down one dyno graph to jump up and down screaming about how I won an e-argument. If it doesn't exist, then you have my most honest and sincerest apologies. Do try to understand that my comments stem from the fact that 95% of people who ask these types of questions can't be bothered to search, they just sit behind their computers waiting for the knowledge to come to them. A good example is like that guy who was asking questions without knowing what a supercharger was, and couldn't be bothered to Google search what a supercharger is, so he asked on the forum instead-that kind of thing.

And really, I've helped people on this forum, even with stupid questions.
