I'm not sure which MY the filters are compatible with. Just spoke with K&N. They seem to have 1 part number for 2008-2011 M3s. I ordered one anyways. Will let you guys know if this fits on my MY11 M3.

I dont care for the chrome end on the Dinan filter. Probably attracts and holds alot of heat. I hope KN makes a complete kit. Imangine dual air boxs or making the passenger side hood vent functional and maybe even changing the plenum along with the chargepipe. I have the Dinan set-up and i am always looking for an upgrade.

Just got the filter today. Installed it in 15 minutes. The fit and quality of the piece is pretty good. The fitment is pretty snug on my MY11 M3. I guess the part E-2994 is the Euro filter replacement. Not sure if they have a US Spec filter.
The sound is almost the same as the stock euro filter, but a tad louder at the upper RPM range. My butt dyno is registering minimal gains, but honestly, I doubt anyone could really feel a 5-15whp increase. Overall, I like it. $75 shipped for a high flow filter from a reputable company. Here are some pics:

Why would one do this? Is the OEM filter that restrictive? Is there any proof that shows new/clean OEM filter outperformed by an aftermarket air filter?

Only if something goes wrong....although I believe K&N's selling point is that they come with a non-warranty-void guarantee on all filters. This needs confirmation. But seriously, an air filter is fine. And it's super easy to replace/remove anyways.

Don't like searching do you? I'm sorry to be rude, but there's a reason that I made a comical rendition of these situations in the exhaust section. Yes, the stock air filter is restrictive, explained multiple times ad nauseum in multiple threads. Yes there is proof in the form of dyno graphs, both manufacturer dyno graphs AND independent dyno graphs. Either Google, use the forum's search function, or check PencilGeek's ~*DYNO DATABASE*~ Last edited by LateBraking; 09-22-2010 at 06:37 PM.. |
