M3 vs. 1M Coupe
We knew it was going to happen eventually, now that the first vid is up we may as well get the speculations out there.
Is the 1M Coupe the dominant track monster now? Of course the M3 will still be the more badass machine, but will the current iteration of the M3 remain on top in terms of performance around the track? LETS GET GOING!

Scott has said a few times that the 1M Coupe will not tread on M3 turf.

No high revving = no care
Looks nimble on a track though.

I think a no option model with speed cloth (the newer type they have shown pictures of on the F10 5 series) and MDCT would be alot of fun! It should weight less than the M3 and feel nimbler (even if it isn't). For the money a used Cayman S may be the better option if I decide to keep the M3 though.

Is the engine for the 1M an "S" engine (e.g. S54, S65), or is it based off the N54/N55?

That is one thing I do not like about the car. They simply took the existing engine in the 135i and "tuned" it. Hell the Procede and JB3 already do that. Yes Yes, I know there will be different suspension etc etc. But I like the fact that the M3 has the V8 and not the same engine as the 335i. And yes, I know that the next generation M3 will probably use a tuned N55 engine. That is exactly why I got an M3 at this point. I wanted a unique engine to the M.

I believe it is an N54 that has been tuned to permanently have the power increase that the 335is and the Z4 35is (also tuned N54 engines) can make temporarily. Scott26 or Jason would have to confirm, though.

As for the F30 M3, it will have a twin turbo V6. The N55 is a single turbo I6.

Yeup, I got that it will have a LSD, M body kit etc etc..Hence the Etc Etc after my comment. I Just didnt want to go into specifics since I was speaking on the engine. Either way, for me, the heart of the car simply has my 135i engine in it with a tune. With the M3 you get an all together different beast in regards to the engine. Thats all I am saying. No doubt it will still be a fun car and be very quick. I just would be hard pressed to purchase one when I have something very very similar sitting in the garage already. If the car had a different engine I think I would have switched my order to the 1m instead of the M3. That way I could have had a year 1 of the one..and Year one of the 1m in the garage and kept them.

Something I read stated 330hp. They also stated that it would not encroach M3 territory (performance). That puts it pretty much below 375hp, which would be roughly the same thrust to weight and have comparable numbers. So a good guess would be 330-350hp. That would also make sense as they would never make a car to cannabalize another segment for which they already have a car.

I read that too where it would have similar power output to that of the z4 sdrive35is, which has 335hp, but will have somewhere around 370 lbs-ft of torque. Should be a fun car and I'll definitely have to take one out for a spin.

I suspect the 1 will have an advantage on tighter tracks and the M3 will be faster on horsepower tracks such as Watkins Glen.

The 1m will be 370hp and 310lb ft so it wont be competition to the m3, stock. With bolt on's it will rape the m3.
Maybe now people will finally see that a bolt on 135i is better than a m3 on the track. 1. tune 2. suspension 3. meth 4. down pipes 5. fmic 6. intake 7. lsd 8. Pads and fluid and any other bolt on's make 400rwhp in a light car Although it is not good for your warranty
