M3 vs Evora
Ok, so I've been hearing a lot about the Evora lately, and everyone seems pretty positive about it (Evo's car of the year, etc etc). So, what I wanted to know was what you guys thought about this matchup; I haven't ever seen anything written about this, but I feel like it's a valid test; the Evora seems to be hailed as this amazing sports car, but no one has mentioned the fact that an M3 is faster and more practical for considerably less money. So, what do you think?

interesting comparo- i have a hard time validating spending $80g on a car that has less than 300hp.. also that engine note is just terrible. But then again, it is more exotic than a 911 and significantly cooler than the cayman (and arguably an M3). Overall, its like the problem people had in the 90's and early 00's about buying an NSX which was slightly more expensive, and offered around 300hp. The Evora will sell bc of its chassis, while the m3 will sell bc of its engine/ day to day usability. In the end, its about your priority in a sports car

The Evora is nice looking, but for a DD I think the M3 is superior.

You're paying 80k for a modified Toyota engine in a mid-ship configuration. Don't know. Rest of the car does look nice, haven't seen it on the road yet though.
I would just buy a used Cayman S (which Car and Driver just claimed was the winner in a comparison test between the two) if you want a mid-engine car. I would probably get the M3 or a used 911s for 80k (or a GT-R????)

As much as I love Lotus, I have to agree that the Evora sits in a weird place. Given its pricing, I would definitely go either 911 or M3.
I'm actually a fan of Lotus revised Toyota engines, having tracked both an Exige and Elise several times. But I don't think the interior is up to snuff. The Evora has an older Alpine W505 system (I had the same one in my G35) which is nice, but nowhere near as good as the Porsche PCM (the 2010+ version that is) or the 2011 M3 Nav/iDrive. And the rest of the interior (e.g. seats, steering wheel, dash) is pretty weak relatively speaking. I think the Evora would be a good competitor to the 328/335 if it was about $10-15K cheaper, but as it is, it just can't compete with the M3. |

For the price and its intended market positioning, the Evora has a terrible interior. As a driver's car it is great, but as a LUXURIOUS driver's car it has terrible value.

You know how some cars grow on you. I took another look and the Evora grows on you like a fungus. Looks uglier now than the first time I saw it.
