Dumb to trade for a 2010 GTR

Hey guys,
this is just a brainwave that has been going around the house starting yesterday and has been picking up speed since.

Sell the M3 and get 2010 GTR. It would be a daily driver for the summer.

I know the m3 is classier, but I am young and feel like this is really the only time I could personally pull a GTR off. Don't like the interior or lack of 6mt, but in terms of sheer fun and insaniety, I dont know what else there is.

Please chime in and tell me if I am thinking wrong, love my car, always will.

The GTR only looks right if you are younger IMO so go for it. You can always come back to luxury later on

Seriously, if you can then do it. Don't be the 40-50 year old divorcee, mid life crisis, compensating old man in a car like that. You will want all the amenities when you get older enjoy a car like the GTR now

Not so sure it is "classier". I think it is very, very aggressively styled and aimed at a youthful buyer. The M3 does have that almost seemingly exaggerated humpy on the front hood. Wish they didn't have to do that (if they did have to). No need to recruit the WRX and Mustang types.

The GTR has brute force on it's side thats for sure. I would have gone for one but as you wrote the lack of manual is a no-go for me. But hey few choices at 80k for a 500 hp car. OR S/C your M3 for 10k??

+1, Even though most people like driving the GTR, it might not be your cup of tea until you give it a try. I know my uncle test drove it but found it a little rough. didn't like the M3 either oddly and ended up going going the benzo route C63 AMG (IMO though straights are as well as the exhaust note)

Haven't driven (or even rode passenger in) the GT-R but there are plenty of guys in their 30's and 40's driving them. How many 20 year olds can afford that car.......on thier own nickel? I say go for a test drive and let us know what you think. From what I hear/read, the transmission is noisy as hell and the ride is nowhere near as clompliant as your M3. There is no denying the performance of the GT-R. I personally like the exterior styling of the car and find the interior to be very acceptable albeit not BMW, MB, Porsche, Audi quality. People really bitch about the paint quality on the GT-R -- but we all know that our BMW's have an ass load of orange peel itself. I think the biggest obstacle that an M3 owner will have to overcome is the lack of driver involvement in the GTR.

In the back of my mind I just picture video game geeks salivating over the GT-R....a bit of a turnoff for sure.. but most likely wouldn't keep me from buying one.

i'd do it. i love my m3 but the gt-r is just so dirty.... the only two things that kept me from getting one was (1) the cost, and (2) the retarded warranty and maintenance.

Where are you going to go to get your M3 S/C for $10k with labor and beat a GTR?

Actually this is a deterrent for me too, and why I got a 997 instead. I'm happy that my car is ho-hum when I take it in for maintenance, and maintenance is routine because so many of the other cars there are the same.

With the GTR you have a car that every porter kid wants to snatch for a quick joyride, there's few mechanics who can work on it, and of course the mechanics have little experience working on them (new model, only a few of the cars around).

i agree with practically everything so far.

the gtr has this menacing appeal to me, its just dirty. Other than performance and fun-factor it offers nothing, but its really good in those departments...

i also started looking at the 2010 e63 as i was looking for gtrs...


by the way, test drove the gtr at the dealer.
I was left confused, dont think i was able to really get a feel for it, but couldnt do that in the first time in the m either...

I drove my friends GTR and I gotta say.. that car is a beast. Easily faster than a M3, and toss in a few thousand on a ECU tune and a muffler and it's faster than 99% of the stuff out there. The only downsides really are that the car is stiff, the styling (subjective), and lack of some creature comforts I'd expect in a 80k car.

The ESS stage 1, wasn't really claiming stage one would beat a GTR, just close. Stage 2 is 11500 or so i believe plus labor.

Yea the interior in that car is nissan quality all over. Definitely not what one would expect from a car that expensive. I sat in one and it felt like I was in a 370z (with back seats). You are purely paying for performance.

I think I would probably do it if I were you! The GTR is awesome! BUT - as others said and you have clearly already seen it is a notch below in interior quality. Its built for racing which I think is awesome!

I have been down this road. I traded my 2010 E90 M3 DCT for a 2011 GT-R.

The GT-R is an amazing performance machine, but I could see it getting old pretty quick if used as a daily driver. The car is really big and low with much less visibility than the M3 so parking and tight maneuvers can be tricky. Also, the GT-R is loud on the inside due to tire and wind noise. I found the Bluetooth useless at highway speeds because the cabin was so loud. The seats are pretty narrow as well and get a bit uncomfortable on long drives for my size 36 waist. Finally, you will get a lot more attention. This can get old fast as every teenager in town drives like an idiot to get a better look at your car.

On the flip side there is probably no other car that has this much performance yet is so confidence inspiring. Once you learn to trust the AWD system you will be taking corners at speeds you never thought possible. Also, the thrust from 0 to about 120 is awesome. If you want the most usable performance for under $100k then the GT-R is hard to beat.

I really enjoyed my GT-R as a weekend toy, but I recently came across a deal on a 2009 Porsche 997.2 C2S and I made the trade. I have wanted a Porsche 911 for years and I am happy I made the switch. I gave up some performance, however I feel like I gained a car that has more of soul. Also, I get to row my own gears again which I have been missing over the last few years while I went through my paddle shifter phase.

My only advise is try to spend some significant seat time in the Nissan before buying. This might be hard considering most dealers' attitudes about test drives. If you go over to NAGTROC and look in the regional forums you can probably fine someone willing to let you play with their car for a bit. One other thing you need to check out is the maintenance cost of the GT-R. If you plan to daily drive it this could be an issue.

+1, I would not pay 80k for a Nissan, I don't care how fast it is. By the end of the day, it will still be a Nissan. Fast car, don't get me wrong, but not for me. I am very happy with my M.
