Mercedes plans C63 AMG coupe

Mercedes-Benz is preparing to take on the Audi RS5 and fifth-generation BMW M3 with a powered-up version of its upcoming C-class coupé.

The new two-door, set for UK launch late next year, will be known as the C63 AMG Coupé.

It runs a combination of the company’s four-year-old naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 engine and seven-speed MCT (multi-clutch transmission) — a set-up that will also be used in a facelifted version of the C63 saloon due next year.

Officials from Mercedes’ performance car division said the AMG Coupé was conceived as a direct rival to the RS5 and M3.

“We’re looking to up the power beyond that of today’s C63 AMG. It’s safe to say it will be the most powerful of the three,” said an AMG source.

In a move mirroring that of the CL63 AMG, Mercedes is expected to offer the C63 AMG Coupé and its four-door saloon sibling with an optional performance package.

This will put power up from a standard 450bhp to around 480bhp — 36bhp more than the RS5 and 66bhp more than the M3.

However, sources say an even more powerful C63 AMG Coupé is also being developed.

The C63 AMG Black Series is planned to fill the void left by the discontinuation of the CLK63 AMG Black Series, although its launch will be preceded by the SLS63 AMG Black Series towards the end of 2012.

Hahahahaha! I like this. For this BMW is bring up the new M Performance parts, like this the M3 WILL STILL KILL. And BMW will also bring the M3 GTS-R to KILL the C 63 AMG BS! I gotta feeling RS5 will be the slowest, so Audi is maybe yet going to bring a stripped down RS5 QUATTRO. I love this competition and specially M3, THE UNSHAKEN!

I personally really like the way the current C63 AMG Sedan looks.

That being said this thing is FUGLY...

The side shot makes the rear look so long it looks like its breaking a law of physics or at the very least the law of good taste!

Who said it didn't look fine? I said it looks long just like the pic of the C63 coupe.

Even with the wider rear arches in the M3 -- it still looks long. Compare it to an E46M3 and look at the length of the car from the door back --- it's considerably shorter than the E92. That's all I'm saying.

The current C63 sedan's looks appeal to certain people. That being said, the coupe version is a new alternative to the current choices. I hope it comes out looking better because I am a big fan of the C63 sedan.

c63 is a sick car... its def not an M3...but I really enjoy its lines..very aggressive and its power is really something to be reckoned with.....

.....glad to see Benz is throwing some stiff competition at BMW M.....

I guess its a testament to how good the M3 is....Benzy and Audi love to make cars aimed at dethroning the M3.....RS5 FAIL...C63 coupe...????

Who cares. I don't really dig MB, even their black series cars or their new SLS for that matter. For some reason, I always think people who buy those cars do it because they want the status and know they got a really big engine in the bay.

Probably a surprise to you but there just may be others that do care about it and care to hear about other cars as well. Hence, the "M3 vs" header on this forum and last time I checked, this was under "M3 vs" header.

I think the C63 sedan looks great was close to buying one. The RS5, CTS-V, and C63 are all just going to make BMW work that much harder on the M. I just hope after the RS5 debacle that one of the competitors outperforms the M so we can really see what BMW can do.

I'm kind of interested. Always disliked the fact they didn't have a C63 or I would have considered it...

I just never have wanted a sedan...no S4 for me either for that reason.
