UGH someone hit my car and bailed...
I hope Karma hunts this person down.
I had my car in a parking lot at a mini mall in Long Island, I come back from eating dinner with some clients. And what do I see? green paint scraped against the side of my whole car, door and fender pushed in and rear fender scuffed up... This happened friday. I've only had this car for slightly over a month. I've spent most this weekend wrapping my head around this.. I just dropped it off to a repair shop after a visit to Gieco, who's hitting me with a $500 deductable... wtf.. repair shop said they will need to replace the door and fender... I have to pay for something I had no control over. I seriously have not been so angry in years, I can't think straight. This whole situation has made me pretty depressed this whole weekend. I ended up staying in watching seasons of Nip/Tuck and drinking Jameson... I guessing I'm posting this just to vent.. sorry for wasting a thread, it seems like it's the only free thing these days. Yeah, that always sucks. Hit and runs and vandalism do suck. You could have at least filed a complaint with the police. If they pull someone over with the same color car and damage they usually ask about it as far as I have heard. They actually caught the guy that hit and run on my parents 5-6 years ago within a week of it happening. Routine traffic stop.

Damn dude, I feel for you. It angers me that there are such piss poor drivers on the road, and how little accountability there is. Hope the body shop fixes it up right.

You have my sympathies. I fear it is a matter of time before someone does this to me, either accidentally or intentionally.

yeah, guys this sucks. Thanks for the understanding, my fam thinks I'm upset over nothing, but it's not their car or cash.
I was so excited to put on my new wheels and tires today. My pocket's are a bit tight from the recent purchase of the car and the wheels, basic checkup etc and to have to shell out another $500 for someones poor driving. In fact it's not even the money issue, it's just the principle of the whole thing ... I didn't file a police report because I didn't want it to end up on my carfax as an accident. I honestly couldn't think straight and figured that was the best long term solution. I'm just sitting by the phone waiting for the bodyshop to give me a rough time when I'll get my car back. It's a BMW approved repair place so hopefully everything will match. Last edited by jnkhan82; 08-02-2010 at 09:56 AM.. |

In regards to this incident not showing on CARFAX, The fact that you filed a claim through Geico "may" still cause the incident to show on the report. At a minimum, this loss will show up on an industry CLUE (Claims Loss Underwriting Exchange) report and may still end up on CARFAX.

Sorry to read what has happened to you... As for the deductible, isn't that why you have insurance. I get pissed I have to pay monthly fees for insurance when nothing happens. But it's how it works. We pay a reasonnable monthly fee... We pay a deductible (500$ in your case) and we save ourselves from paying 2000 to 4000$ (or more) for repairs for something we had no fault at.
Hit & Runs are a bitch. |

I don't disagree with you at all, I work on the inside and sometimes end up shaking my head at some of the practices in the insurance industry. BTW, in the above instance the OP is not considered "At Fault" but the claim can have a bearing on renewal rates (depending on the company).

I was speaking to the Gieco rep and she said it shouldn't affect my policy since my driving record is good and I was not in the vehicle, Ny has a 10% driver fault no matter what, if your inside the car. Her choice of the word " shouldn't" has me a bit concerned, that does not mean it won't, it's just an assumption from her side...
I questioned the rep if the price of the repair effects my future rates, and she said " a claim is a claim, the price does not affect anything. The situation and driving record will be the main factor" I also got off the phone with the repair shop, they said the door and fenders are going to be replaced, not repaired and the whole side will be repainted... I should be able to pick it up friday if BMW has the door skin in stock. Last edited by jnkhan82; 08-02-2010 at 01:16 PM.. |

Sorry...
As the Vulcans say: "We grieve with thee..." Another good example of why I park as far away from others as possible; in spots with closed areas next to them; if I could get away with it, I'd park sideways in three spaces.
Freude am Fahren (und Parken)...

Passenger side curb spot is best, since the car next to you won't necessarily have a passenger. |
